PLE Weekly Community Outreach

Messages from your leaders
Hello PLE Community!
Today marks the start of Hispanic Heritage Month! Hispanic Heritage Month takes place from September 15th-October 15th each year. During Hispanic Heritage Month we intentionally highlight, celebrate, and recognize the diverse cultures and contributions of the American Latino/a/x community. This month provides an excellent opportunity for learning about the rich histories and traditions of Latin American countries as well as the many ways in which Latino/a/x individuals have made significant contributions to American society. Stay tuned for ways in which we are celebrating here at PLE.
This September is proving to be similar to Septembers of the past in that we are finding that we need to make staffing and classroom adjustments as our enrollment stabilizes. Changes after the start of the year are never comfortable, and we do try to make them quickly so that we all have time to settle into the routines that will carry us through the year. Early next week I will be providing an update about our class sizes and what actions we are taking to best serve our students. I appreciate how thoughtful our community has been in reaching out to me about this.
It takes us all to educate and mentor these amazing children and we appreciate the Phantom Lake Elementary Family!

September Virtue of the Month and SEL Lesson
This year we will be learning about and practicing a new virtue each month as a school. We have also pre-scheduled all of our Social and Emotional Learning lessons to correlate with our virtue. We will let you know what the virtue and lesson are for each month.
September Virtue = Curiosity
September 2nd Step = Growth Mindset and Goal Setting
To be curious is to explore and discover, to take an interest in a new experience. Curiosity is looking to trying and experiencing new things, and learning through those new adventures and experiences. Curious people want to learn and try new things, and to grow in their understanding. Let's all practice curiosity this year!

BSD Texting App "Talking Points" to Use New Phone Numbers
The BSD texting app, "Talking Points," will utilize new phone numbers this year. Bellevue School staff use Talking Points to send SMS text messages to families. Our vendor has let us know that this school year, the sender’s phone number will appear different to families than in the past. This means that when you receive a text from staff, it will appear to be a new sending number. If you attempt to reply to an old number, you will receive a reminder that the number has been re-assigned. We apologize for any confusion this may create. You will continue to receive all texts from BSD staff, but you may notice a new phone number.
Safety and Security
Update your emergency contacts in Synergy ParentVUE starting in August 2023. More information on emergency contacts and emergency school release can be found on the student reunification process webpage. The BSD Safety and Security Department seeks to establish a culture that provides a safe learning environment through preparedness and awareness.
