Grand March Update for Saturday, April 1st
The following message was sent on Friday, March 31 to all Class of 2023 students and parents/guardians:
We would like to clear up some confusion from yesterday’s email. Spectators are welcome to come to Wequassett for the Grand March. Due to the rain and wind, modifications to the typical Grand March are necessary, to protect the students from the weather conditions. The following are the details for the event:
- Students should arrive at the resort at 4:30pm to line up in twenty-eight Atlantic
- Grand March will begin at 5:00pm. Spectators can watch the Grand March from the Garden Terrace and its adjoining patio area. Please dress for the weather, as some spectators will be outdoors.
- Students will walk from the Garden Terrace (they will have a brief stop on a staging area), and then head into the Pavilion to enjoy the prom.
- We are encouraging families to take most of their photos before coming to the resort, as due to the weather, the typical areas will not be ideal for photos.
We look forward to celebrating the Class of 2023 and to this special event.
Please reach out the kmanning@monomoy.edu or jstjohn@monomoy.edu with any last-minute questions.

Postural Screening for 9th grade students will take place April 10-14, 2023
Massachusetts General Laws (M.G.L. c.71, s57) require that all public school students in grades five through nine be screened annually for the early detection of spinal problems.
The purpose of this screening program is to identify possible curvature of the spine in children. The screening test is very simple and can be performed in less than one minute. The screening consists of observations of the students back when standing and bending forward and will be conducted by a registered nurse. You will be contacted if there is any reason that warrants follow up by your child’s health care provider.
Postural screening for ninth grade students will take place in addition to SBIRT screening during the week of April 10th. All students will be screened individually in a private setting in the health office. The entire back must be visible during the screening process. All students are asked to remove their shirts. Females should wear a bra or halter top to permit more accurate observation of the back. If students do not have the type of clothing that permits observation of the back, a notice will be sent to parents/guardians that screening was not completed. Follow up should be done with the student’s health care provider with documentation submitted to the school nurse.
If you choose not to have your child participate in the Postural Screening Program, please email cdufault@monomoy.edu or ssears@monomoy.edu prior to April 5, 2023. Please then follow up by ensuring that a current physical with postural screening is on file in the nurse's office.
Please feel free to contact your school nurses with any questions about postural screening.
Healthy regards,

MRHS & MRMS Robotics Teams participate in Cape Cod Maker Faire
The High School and Middle School robotics teams joined together to compete at the Cape Cod Maker Faire on Saturday, March 26th. The High School Team members in attendance included:
- Thomas Chase (9th Grade)
- Sawyer Nicholson (9th Grade)
- Ben McMullen (8th Grade)
- Madison Whitcomb (8th Grade)
- Tyler Stephens (8th Grade)
- Andrew Smith (8th Grade)
From the Middle school, students in attendance included:
- Jake Terrio (7th Grade)
- Davion Watson (7th Grade)
- Stella Seufert (7th Grade)
Our team brought two robots and ended up advancing to the semi-finals, losing to the star team from Mashpee. The Mashpee team is advancing to the VEX Robotics World Championship, but we gained a multitude of experiences from this event. We are quickly improving and are hoping to field an improved design for next season with aspirations to compete at the state level. We are super fortunate for this opportunity and thank Mr.Oldach and Mr.Souza for their time and effort this season.
Additionally, we have been invited to tour the Robotics Development facility at Boston Dynamics in May. We are super fortunate to have this opportunity, and can’t wait to see all the new ideas for next season.
Save-A-Life Tour visits MRHS
MRHS students were able to experience first-hand the dangers of distracted and impaired driving through the Save A Life Tour, which uses simulators to show students the risks of driving while texting or while under the influence. This program was brought to Monomoy by Harwich Youth Counselor Sheila House, and was supported by Opioid Recovery and Remediation funds from Chatham and Harwich.
Animal Welfare visits Harwich Elementary
Last Friday, members and advisors of the MRHS Animal Welfare Club visited all the second grade students at Harwich Elementary to teach them about pet care. We covered dog and cat care, as well as how to approach horses, when to feed fish, and how to keep your pet safe when outside. Many thanks go to HES teacher Kristin Gvazdauskas for arranging our visit and to MRHS students: Tessa Gingras, Hoku Hill, and Sierra Becotte for handling the mic and the children so well. Thanks also to AWC member Elizabeth Cronen for creating our slide show, AD Karen Guillemette for the athletic van, and Principal Police for her support.
Boston Ballet: Don Quixote
Last Friday, Mrs. Forte-Doyle took 18 of her students to see and experience the Boston Ballet company's production of DON QUIXOTE at the beautiful, old opera house! Many thanks to Principal Police, Katie Francesconi, and Tim Doyle for all their help and support!
