Managing Time in Distance Learning
As we continue in distance learning, we have heard from some parents and students that they are overwhelmed and struggling in the new environment. We encourage students to reach out to their School Counselor and teacher to get help with managing tasks and completing work online. We will also be providing student and staff tutors in the coming days during study hall as another source of support. This video provides some tips for managing your time and tasks.
Book Checkout Service
During distance learning the library is offering a Concierge Book Checkout service. This service will be available every Monday. Can't make it to school to pick up a print book? The Stone Bridge Library has a collection of eBooks and eAudio books available for checkout through our eBook app, MackinVIA. Click here to find out more about book checkout and other programs offered by your SBH Library.
Partners for Safe Teen Driving Event
In cooperation with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, LCPS is offering virtual Partners for Safe Teen Driving presentations. Attendance by students and a parent/guardian is a requirement for student driver’s licensing. The event will be held on Tuesday, September 29th, and Thursday, October 8th, from 7 - 9 PM. Only Stone Bridge students using their LCPS account will be able to attend and sessions are limited. Students should register here for their preferred session. Confirmed attendees will receive an email on the date with the log on information for each session.
Yearbook Portraits
Students will be getting their portraits taken this year following social distancing protocols. Photos for students in grades 9-11 will be scheduled on September 28, October 5, and October 19 from 12-7 pm. A make-up and retake day has been scheduled for November 30th. All students will be required to sign up for an appointment slot on this website to have their portrait taken and receive their student ID.
Student Health Forms
Even though we are in a virtual school environment, we are still collecting health forms for all students. Please email Nurse Alexis Kerr any action plans for your child, such as for allergies, asthma, seizures, medication administration, or diabetes management. All of the forms are available here in both English and Spanish. It's important to have the forms in advance so that we can transition smoothly to the hybrid model and provide for students' medical needs. We also share the information with the student's teachers so that they are aware of any health concerns. Please email all forms to: Alexis.kerr@lcps.org. Please do not drop off forms or medications at school at this time.
MAP Testing
LCPS is invested in helping students access rigorous instruction during the 2020-2021 school year; therefore, identifying students’ instructional readiness levels as early as possible is an essential requirement. Stone Bridge HS will be administering NWEA’s MAP Math Growth assessments to students in Algebra 1 and Geometry on September 28th and October 5th.
We will be sending out much more detailed information to families and students affected. If you do not wish for your child to participate in this assessment, you have the option to opt out. You can view sample reports and find more information on the LCPS MAP website.
Seal of Biliteracy Assessments & LCPS Credit through Testing
For SY20-21, testing opportunities for earning the Seal of Biliteracy will be limited to current seniors. There will be two ways to demonstrate proficiency, depending on the language.
- The online ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages® (AAPPL) will be made available, at no cost, for seniors wishing to be tested for Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Spanish. Students should work with Mrs. Meneau to coordinate the administration of this online assessment as evidence of proficiency.
- Registration for the LCPS CTT is limited to current seniors, who wish to earn the Seal of Biliteracy. The CTT assessments will only be administered in the following languages: Bengali, Farsi, Gujarati, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tagalog, Tamil, Urdu and Vietnamese. Health mitigation processes will be in place to ensure safety during this in-person testing at schools.
Students may register themselves for ONE of the three test administration dates at varying locations:
- Monday, November 2, 2020, 4:00PM, Park View High School
