Recycling and Composting Initiative
District 103 has begun a recycling and composting initiative across all of its schools and is working with the Illinois Green Alliance for guidance on this project. Families can follow the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County guidelines on composting at their home. The Illinois Green Alliance works with schools to promote green buildings and sustainable communities. This District 103 video shows how our Leaders in Learning are already making a difference in our schools. Watch for school specific videos on composting and recycling coming soon.
Global citizenship is one of the traits that defines D103's new Portrait of a Graduate. To this end, Sprague students have begun to implement a new composting program during the lunch hour but they need a little help to develop and refine the process. Please consider donating a half-hour of your time during an upcoming lunch period to help support our students. Learn more and sign up on the PTO Membership Toolkit!
Dress for the Traditions Fair
Children are invited to wear traditional clothing from their culture to celebrate Sprague's Family Traditions Fair, tomorrow, Sept. 30. Our students have been preparing all week learning about the countries being represented in the school. We are looking forward to celebrating the day with the students when they visit different family booths to learn about various countries.
During our Family Traditions Fair, there will be several interactive activities that include henna and a photo booth with props. If you do not want your child to participate in one or both activities, please talk with your child and let them know to bypass these activities.
Minecraft Spots Available
There are still a few spots available for second-graders who would like to participate in the after school activity, Minecraft Club. Minecraft meets on Thursdays. The club focuses on creativity, collaboration, and communication. The club will use a special version of Minecraft called Minecraft: Education Edition, designed specifically for teachers and students to create and explore together. Activities will be student-driven and will focus on working together in small groups to build and solve problems. Register for the club on the RevTrak Web Store.
Movie Night Suggestion Form
Movie Night is Friday, Nov. 4, and we need your help in finding the best movie to show for this fun night out. Please vote using this movie night suggestion form and recommend one "G" rated movie that your student would absolutely love to watch with their friends at school. Students will also be voting during lunch for their favorite movie.
District to Administer CogAT
The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) is being administered next week to Sprague students in second-grade. The CogAT evaluates the level and pattern of cognitive development of students, as well as their abilities in problem-solving using verbal, quantitative, and spatial (nonverbal) reasoning. Please visit the district website news bulletin for more about CogAT.
National Hispanic Heritage Month
National Hispanic Heritage Month honors the culture, heritage, and contributions of Hispanic Americans each year. During this month, observed annually from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, communities mark the achievements of Hispanic and Latino Americans with festivals and educational activities, according to the website, Hispanic Heritage Month.
The 2022 Hispanic Heritage Month theme invites "us to celebrate Hispanic Heritage and to reflect on how great our tomorrow can be if we hold onto our resilience and hope,” according to the National Council of Hispanic Employment Program Managers. D103 schools celebrate with reading books, weekly lessons, and displays.

Improved Lunch Menus
Quest has updated the lunch menus on the FD MealPlanner platform so they are easier for parents to view.
Please check your child's Quest lunch balance through the MySchoolBucks platform. Turn on the auto replenish option so your child's account doesn't go into a negative balance. Families may also sign up for low balance alert emails, which lets them know when they need to replenish a lunch account.
