Library Databases

Created for kids in grades Pre-K through 8, Funbrain.com has been the leader in free educational games for kids since 1997. Funbrain offers hundreds of games, books, comics, and videos that develop skills in math, reading, problem-solving and literacy.


HEB Summer Reading Club

H‑E‑Buddy is ready for summer fun and summer jamming, so it's time to kick off our H‑E‑Buddy Summer Reading Club. All you have to do is read ten books and record them on your reading log from the form linked (on the website). Each time you log a book, have an adult initial by the title so you get credit for reading. Once the log is complete, mail the form to the address below, and you'll be rewarded with a special t‑shirt. You have until October 1 to get in ten good reads. Texas summers are made for adventures, and some of the best adventures you find are in books, so find a stack of books and start exploring. For readers ages 3 to 12.


J.K. Rowling Writes a Very Different Children's Story

Follow J.K. Rowling as she writes installments of her children's story, The Ickabog, a very different story than Harry Potter, with no magic. If you like to draw, join in the competition to illustrate her story!

Scholastic's Summer Read-a-Palooza

For 2020, we are excited to share a brand new kids experience in Scholastic Home Base, a free digital destination which offers full books, live events, and games in a safe community for readers! Kids will be encouraged to track their reading streaks™ to earn rewards and unlock book donations, with the goal of donating 100,000 books by July!

Scholastic Home Base is a fun, safe, and completely free online destination where kids can create their own avatar, interact with their favorite Scholastic characters, play games, and read books. Home Base is moderated 24/7. Parents, click the link to help your child create their own personal account.

StoryPlace: The Children’s Digital Learning Library

StoryPlace came about to provide children with the virtual experience of going to the Library and participating in the same types of activities the Library offers at its physical locations. First launched in 2000, StoryPlace has been newly redesigned to present favorite stories and activities in a format compatible with desktop and mobile devices.

Association for Library Service to Children

The Association for Library Service to Children provides lists full of book titles to keep children engaged in reading throughout the summer.

Horn Book Summer Reading Lists

Horn Book’s summer reading recommendations range from picture books, early readers and primary grades, intermediate, middle school, and high school.

International Literacy Association’s Children’s Choices

Children have evaluated these books and written reviews of their favorites. Since 1974, Children’s Choices has been a trusted source of book recommendations used by teachers, librarians, parents, and children themselves. The list is divided into recommendations for Beginning Readers (Grades K-2, Ages 5-8), Young Readers (Grades 3-4, Ages 8-10), and Advanced Readers (Grades 5-6, Ages 10-12).


Reading Rockets Summer Reading Lists

Reading Rockets' annual summer booklist makes it easy to find great books kids will enjoy during the long, lazy days of summer. This list can be a springboard for helping your kids choose books on topics that pique their curiosity — that's what really motivates children to want to read!


Texas 2X2 Reading List (PreK to 2nd)

The Texas 2X2 Reading List is a project of the Children’s Round Table, a unit of the Texas Library Association. TLA sponsors the 2X2 Reading List solely to encourage free voluntary reading for children from two years old to second grade. These books also make perfect read-alouds for children of all ages.

Texas Bluebonnet Award

The Texas Bluebonnet Award selection committee chooses the twenty titles, both fiction and nonfiction, based on suggestions by librarians, teachers, parents, students, and other interested persons. The list is released each year at the Texas Book Festival in October. Nominees must have been published within three years of the release of the list.

Lightbox™ is a multimedia educational space that encourages students to see learning in a whole new light. With Lightbox, students receive a true multimedia learning experience that incorporates audio, video, interactive activities, and much more across a variety of professionally developed curriculum. Follett is providing free and full access until June 30, 2020.
