What is going on?
Tomorrow is our Veterans Assembly please have kids wear red, white, or blue.
The kids have also earned an electronics day. They will have 3o minutes of device time.
Tomorrow is picture retakes. Please send back the original pictures that you do not want.
Next week we will be learning....
November 4th-8th
Reading: Students will recognize characteristics and structures of informational text, including: the central idea, titles, simple graphics, and steps in a sequence. Students will use context to determine the meaning of a word. Students will understand that a good citizen has responsibilities in their daily life, including voting.
Writing: This week, students will continue learning about using the writing process to compose an imaginative fiction story.
Spelling: Even, feel, children, city, first, know, grow, four
Grammar: We will be learning about using adverbs to describe the time in our writing.
Science: As we continue our unit on earth and space science, students will observe and describe the properties of rocks, such as shape, color and texture. Students will compare 2 different rocks, finding their differences and similarities.
Math: In math we will read and write the time to the nearest minute using analog and digital clocks. We will distinguish between a.m. and p.m. We’ll also review all measurement that we have studied so far (inch, foot, yard, cm,meter) and have a measurement and time assessment at the end of the week.

Sommer Elementary would like to invite our active duty, retired, or reserve service members to join us on Friday, November 8th in honoring our Nation’s Heroes at our Veterans Day Assembly. Coffee and snacks will be available for our special guests BEFORE the assembly, at 7:00 am, in the library. If possible, please fill out and submit the RSVP if you plan to attend.

We will also be putting up our Veterans Wall again this year. Resubmit your pictures from previous years or create new ones by downloading and using the templates provided below. All Veterans pictures can be turned in to your student’s teacher NO LATER THAN November 1st, 2019. We can not guarantee that any pictures received after Nov. 1st will make the wall. World Changer Club Clean-up
The World Changers Club will be hosting a School Clean-up Day on November 16,2019. We would like for our whole community to join us to help with this project. It will be a family event so adults and children are encouraged to join in the work. Items to bring: full water bottles, garden gloves, small garden shovels, shrub clippers, rakes and garden shears (please label them with your families' last name). Please dress appropriately for working outside. Thanks for helping make our school campus look beautiful. If you have questions please contact Marjorie Manning, Laure Stroh or Celia Michaud.
Description of Jobs:
Trash Clean-up: Pick up trash around the school grounds (disposable latex-free gloves will
be provided for this group).
Garden and Flower Bed Clean-up: Clipping shrubs (adult job), removing weeds, limbs,(things to make it look tidy) etc...

World Changer Club Clean-up day

Sommer Book Drive
Student Council is hosting their second annual Book Drive to benefit other RRISD elementary schools as well as some local charities. These books will be donated to children that may not have many books at home. New or gently used children's books can be dropped off outside of Mrs. Macre’s office until Friday, November 8th. Thank you!
