Join us for Family Math Night April 14th!
Please join us at Family Math Night Thursday, April 14th from 6-7 p.m. in the OMS library. This is a great evening to spend some time with your student learning "how" they learn math and how you can support them at home. We would like to know how many to expect, so please RSVP on this OMS Family Math Night link.
Your students brought home invitations last week with a QR code to RSVP. You do not need to RSVP twice. Please contact your student's math teacher with any questions.
Track and Field Practices & Meets
The new 2022 Track Handbook contains all the information about practices, meets, required forms, and expectations. Students may not practice until their athletic packet is complete and returned. If you completed a packet previously, you do not need to turn in another packet.

Allergies or Covid: A Request from the Nurse
With allergy season upon us, Nurse Piper is requesting that students receive allergy medication at home if it is needed. The school health room does not stock allergy medicine. With the symptoms of allergies and Covid being so similar, we do not want students to be sent home for covid testing if they are experiencing seasonal allergies.
Parents, please do not send your child to school if they are sick. We are seeing a number of students coming to school ill, being around friends and staff, and going home during the school day. We want to stop the spread of illnesses and need your help.
Thank you.

Helpful Repeated Information
Registration for 22-23 opens today, April 1st
Registration VS. Enrollment - Do you know the difference?
Registration and enrollment are words sometimes used interchangeably as we talk about preparing for another school year. Did you know that each of these words means something different? Knowing the difference will go a long way in helping your family prepare for the 2022-23 school year.
REGISTRATION
Registration is required annually and is the time to update your child’s information and pay fees. Middle school registration for the 2022-23 school year will open on April 1. This finalizes your enrollment and selection of courses. To complete registration, you must:
Know ParentVUE login: You will need your ParentVUE login/password to complete registration. Not sure what your login/password is? Call the front office of your oldest child’s school for assistance.
Review/Update information: Registration is the time to review/update information about your child, including phone, email, emergency contacts, health data, etc.
Pay fees: Completing registration by paying fees helps the district predict how many students will be participating in each grade level/course in the fall as we work to be financially responsible and stay within guidelines for teacher/student ratios. As we prepare for the new school year, we look at paid registration as a commitment from a family regarding their attendance for the upcoming year.
NOTE: Course fees will be assigned/payable in August.
ENROLLMENT
The term enrollment primarily applies to middle and high school. Enrollment is the process of choosing courses and typically takes place for middle school in February. √ Check! You likely completed this in February and are done with this part, but your child’s enrollment isn’t complete until you complete registration.
Student Supply Requests
As we head into 4th quarter, please check with your student to make sure they have pencils, pens, paper, and any other supplies on which they may be running low. Many students are requesting pencils on a daily basis and we have a limited supply.
Speaking of supplies, we have had an unusually high number of Chromebook chargers and calculators that have gone missing from classrooms. Please check and if you have extra chargers or calculators, please ask your student to return them. If your student needs a charger, you can purchase one from Amazon for about $16. If you have questions, please reach out to one of your student’s core teachers. Thank you!
Last announced for 2021-22 school year
With the arrival of spring, the district has determined the last day of school for students for 2021-22. The last day for students in grades K-11 will be a half-day on Tuesday, May 24, assuming there are no unforeseen circumstances causing us to cancel school. Students in the early childhood programs will have their last day on Monday, May 23.
High school finals will occur May 19 – 24 with building principals communicating the specific schedules to their school families and students at a later date. There will be teacher grade preparation on Wednesday, May 25. For more information, or to subscribe to the district calendar, visit www.bluevalleyk12.org/calendar.
Is your child absent today? Going to be leaving early? A late arrival?
We need your help in reporting your student absences/early releases/late arrivals each school day:
Do not email individuals (any teacher, Mrs. Orenstein, principal)
Do not leave voice messages on personal extensions (any teacher, assistant principal, or Mrs. O’s direct line)
We recommend using ParentVue’s “Report An Absence” (you may leave notes about late arrival or early dismissal)
Please call the attendance line 913/239-5505 and not the main school phone number

OMS Office Hours and Outside Wait Times
This is a reminder the OMS office does not open until 7:00am. Students will be waiting outside until the front doors are unlocked. Student will wait in the front entry foyer until they enter the building at 7:15. Families, please do not drop off students before 7:00am.
In the afternoon, the office closes at 3:30pm. Please make sure that you and your student have made after school pick up plans before they leave for school in the morning.
Library Has Limited Number of Chromebooks
Every student needs to bring their chromebook to school fully charged every day.
The library has a very limited number of chromebooks to loan to students whose chromebooks are malfunctioning. If your student does not have their own chromebook, there is a possibility that there may not be one available for them to use during the day. Any chromebook that is borrowed must be returned at the end of the school day.
Attendance Reporting and Notifications
Families can expect automated attendance messages by email, phone, and text if a child is absent and their absence has not already been reported by a parent/guardian. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to report an absence or reply to the automated email or phone message.
What is the purpose of attendance notifications?
We realize that students may occasionally need to miss school for planned absences, illnesses, and appointments. However, when a student does not arrive at school or unexpectedly misses a portion of the school day, we are concerned and want to make sure you are aware that your child is absent.
How can I get push notifications?
Families who would also like a push notification can download the ParentVUE app and manage their notifications. If a child has an unreported absence when a teacher submits attendance, then a push notification will immediately be sent to the parent/guardian's mobile device.
Interested in push notifications? Simply download the ParentVUE app (iTunes app store or Google Play), enable push notifications in device settings and select attendance notifications through in-app settings. Once the app is downloaded, these instructions will help you complete the set-up.
