Important News for You!
February 17, 2021
Hello Thomson Families,
Well, it has been an unusual year so far with COVID. I appreciate all the support you have given me the last few weeks that I have been here. We definitely miss Mrs. Miller. She is continuing her healing process and I am in conversation with her weekly. Your children are a delight and I enjoy hearing them say "Good Morning Mr. Adam" when I visit their classroom every morning.
With this cold weather we still try to get them outside as much as possible. Our policy is they do not go out if it is zero or below including wind chill. If your child is not dressed appropriate for that day we get them something or will keep them in. It won't be much longer and we will not have to worry about the weather. I hope you enjoyed the few days off because of the Holiday and snow day. Thanks again for everything you do for the staff at Thomson.
Most Sincerely,
Ron Adam
Guest Principal

March is Reading Month!
We all know the importance of reading. To promote enthusiasm for reading, the Thomson Staff has planned a month long reading celebration! See below:
First, each student will be given a March reading calendar to track their reading minutes along with fun reading activities for the month of March. We have set a reading goal of 125,000 minutes of reading for the entire school. This translates to each Thomson student reading or being read to for about 20 minutes, 5 days/week. Please return the calendar to school by Monday, April 5th and we will add up the minutes. For each student that returns his/her calendar, he/she will get their name entered into a drawing to pie a staff member in the face.
Second, we have planned weekly reading celebration events. Please make note of these events below.
● Thursday, February 18th - Each student received a “Favorite Book Cover Activity” to complete at home. Please return their book cover by Wednesday, February 24th so they can be displayed in the hallway.
● Tuesday, March 2nd – Read Across America Day, Celebration of Dr. Seuss’s Birthday. Thomson celebrates: Hats Off To Reading - Students and staff will be encouraged to wear their favorite hat to school.
● Friday, March 5th - Read a Shirt Day - Students and staff are encouraged to wear clothing that has words on it.
● Friday, March 12th - Dress Like A Farmer Day - Students and staff are encouraged to to dress like a farmer to go along with our animal themed books.
● Friday, March 19th - Reading Exercises the Mind – Students and staff are encouraged to wear their favorite jogging/running suit.
● Friday, March 26th - Snuggle Up With Your Favorite Book - Students and staff are encouraged to wear their pajamas and bring their favorite book to school. Students can snuggle up with their favorite book during independent reading time.
Commit to Fit
Our school is happy to announce our upcoming participation in the 2021 Active Schools Challenge. The goal of this challenge is to encourage physical activity and allow Genesee County Schools the opportunity to take part in some "healthy" competition. The Challenge runs March 1st - March 31st. The schools that win the challenge by being the most active will be awarded a monetary donation that can be used towards health and wellness programs for our school. Students that reach the goal of an average of 30 minutes of physical activity per day are also eligible for prizes such as gift cards, bowling passes, movie tickets, and more!
Please encourage your child to track their personal activity both in and out of the classroom in their tracking survey each week during March. All results will be anonymous and names of students are only utilized to distribute prizes through our school. We appreciate your support for this challenge!

Counseling Corner with Mrs.Ganabathi
Sleep is so important! Children who are 5-6 years old need 11-12 hours of sleep each night, while older children need 10-11 hours of sleep a night. It helps to count backwards from the time your child wakes up in the morning to be sure they are going to bed at the right time.
The best way to help your child sleep is to set up a bedtime routine. A bedtime routine could look like: brushing teeth, putting on pajamas, and reading a book together.
Be consistent. Children thrive on routines and will do better with bedtime if it’s the same each night.
Avoid screens in your child’s bedroom and be sure to stop screen time an hour before starting their bedtime routine.
If your child is having trouble falling asleep or staying asleep, talk to your pediatrician.
Face Masks..
