LOCAL 4-H OPPORTUNITIES
Join us and take a Nature Break!
Join Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium, Omaha STEM and other community partners on April 24-27, 2020, for a Nature Break. A once friendly competition, the City Nature Challenge 2020: Omaha Metro is now focusing on embracing the healing power of nature and encouraging the collaborate aspect of urban biodiversity. The international community will join in this four-day period to get out in nature and document plants and animals around the world. City Nature Challenge can still offer people all over the planet a way to safely connect with nature and each other during these difficult times. Neighborhoods, backyards, and walking trails present nature and opportunities to make observations and document our world around us while practicing social distancing.
Sign up today at inaturalist.org and join the project City Nature Challenge 2020: Omaha Metro. You’ll start receiving journal posts about activities that you can do to practice before the event, hints on how to improve your photography, and even ways you can help others identify their observations.

NEW: How Can 4-H Help You this Summer?
NEW: PASE & Life Challenge Updates
Due to COVID-19, the following changes have been made by Nebraska 4-H.
- Life Challenge: County-level only for 2020. Planning is underway for 2021.
- PASE: Postponing to September 21 & 22. While this is a Monday & Tuesday, we would work with 4-H’ers and schools to see if this could be considered an excused absence; sporting events make weekends a challenge. There has been communication with FFA to see if we could collaborate and host some joint events; no decision has been made.
NEW: Online Livestock Judging Video Series
During this unusual time, we know that it is extremely difficult for youth to have the opportunity to practice livestock judging and prepare for future contests. This new video series will provide students the chance to evaluate the class, listen to a critique of the class, and hopefully gain some knowledge regarding terminology for their reasons moving forward.
VIRTUAL DOG CLUB
Are you and your dog at home with nothing to do? Have you thought of training your dog, but didn’t know where to start? Join our 4-H Virtual Dog Club to get started on training your dog at home. You just need a few minutes each day to build the relationship with your dog and improve their behavior.
The club will provide some training tips each week with short videos. You can submit videos of your training progress as we go and get feedback from dog experts. The club is open to all 4-H youth and will focus initially on beginning obedience, but will expand to showmanship and agility as skills increase.
For questions, contact Lisa Karr (lisa.karr@unl.edu).
