15th Sunday of Ordinary Time
10 July 2022
Readings for today
1st Reading: Deuteronomy 30:10-14
2nd Reading: St Paul to the Colossians 1:15-20
Gospel: Luke 10:25-37
Welcome to the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary & St Matthew
This weekend’s Gospel once again details Jesus’ commandment on love. This is not a new teaching by any stretch. However, it is given a new twist when love of neighbor is elevated to the same status as love of God
Fr Isaac reflection...Go and do likewise
The Lord has loved us into being and though we are with fault, through original sin, he has recreated through the paschal mystery – the passion death and resurrection of Christ. In the first reading through Moses the Lord is affirming that his law is very close to Israel. It is so close it is written in their hearts. We have inherited this through our forefather Abraham and Sarah. And then in the Gospel we have a beautiful story, so brief yet packed, of Christs love for us - the Good Samaritan. In this story the Church Fathers have often read and understood this of Christ’s love for us. Him being the Samaritan, we the half dead man, and the inn as the Church. There is so much packed into this passage, but it concludes with the phrase, go and do likewise. Baptised into Christ, as new creatures, we are called to be alter Christus, another Christ, to the world.
So let us follow the Good Samaritan and go and do likewise

We pray for the Ukraine...
Holy and Gracious God
We pray for the people of the Ukraine, for their country and their leader.
We pray for all those who are afraid; that your everlasting arms hold them in this time of great fear.
We pray for all those who have the power over life and death; that they will choose for all people life, and life in all its fullness.
We pray for those who choose war; that they will remember that you direct your people to turn our swords into ploughshares and seek for peace.
We pray for leaders on the world stage; that they are inspired by the wisdom and courage of Christ.
Above all, Lord, today we pray for peace in Ukraine.
And we ask this in the name of your blessed Son.
Lord have mercy.
Amen
