Weekly Wrap-up!
We had another wonderful week of learning. Each week, we are learning about new apps/tools to help assist us in our learning. Thank you for adding all the Google Classes to your child's Google Classroom and thank you for taking on a new Book Creator assignment this week. I know some of you ran into some hiccups but I truly appreciate your patience as we figured it out together. It's difficult to plan and give directions because sometimes, each iPad reacts a little differently. Sometimes I can solve the issues quickly and other times, it takes some time. Thank you for your patience! I am so grateful for your partnership!
Blackboard
Just a reminder that our weekly document of lessons and assignments will be posted on Blackboard. You child should be accessing it using the Blackboard app that looks like the one in this picture. If an item needs to be turned in, a link will be posted right on this document taking them right to Google Classroom where they will turn in their assignment. Google Classroom assignments are sorted by day so you can see, at-a-glance, if your child has turned in all assignments for the day. Some assignments are turned in and checked off and others are graded. Assignments that are graded are scored on the 4 point scale that is used in the district. Remember that a "3" is proficiency and that is what children should be "aiming" for.
Journals
Each Monday, students will be writing in a journal. I need your help to create this! Please take 10-15 pieces of paper and staple together like a book. On the first page (cover), write "_______'s Journal." The _____ is for your child's name. My name is Katie so mine would say, "Katie's Journal." This is a nice way of showing writing progress throughout the year so as you are working with your child, please make sure they are writing the date at the top. I will be modeling this during our live session on Monday.
Google Classroom
Just a few notes/reminders about Google Classroom:
- Not every item is graded. Some assignments will be a simple check just like I might do in a face to face setting.
- When I "return" something to your child, they know that I have looked at it. This does not mean they need to return it back to me.
- Please make sure your child clicks the button that says "turn in" or I can not grade the item or check it in.
Writing Folder
This week, we will be starting more of our traditional writing workshop format. I need your help to create a writing folder for your child. Please take a 2 pocket folder (with or without prongs) and write "Writing Folder" on the front. You can include their name if you would like and they can fancy it up if they would like. This will hold writing assignments as we complete them since many may span multiple days. On the left side of the folder, please place a green circle. You can just color it on the folder or you could use dot stickers. Whatever you have access to will work as long as it looks green. On the right hand side, do the same thing with a red circle. Please see the picture below for reference.
Absences
If your child will be absent, please be sure to call your home school to report the absence so that it can be marked accordingly. It would be helpful if you also notify me so that I am aware too since I'm not connected to school in the way I usually am! If your child is healthy, please do your best to make up any missed class work. Remember that our recorded lessons are posted in the weekly grid so they can be accessed if a child is absent or needs to re-watch something to clarify understanding.
Grades
Beginning this week, some grades will be entered into Infinite Campus. If something is not turned in, I will not be able to grade it. Remember that turning in work is what allows me to check for understanding and adjust my teaching accordingly. Thank you for your assistance in making sure your child completes the assignments.
