Class of 2017 there are a lot of exciting events coming up that will help you to wrap up your last few months as a high school student in style. Students please keep those GPAs in mind..... as the weather gets nicer it is easy to be tempted to avoid your studies, but if your goal is high school graduation and college acceptances/scholarships you need to work hard all year.
As always there are several critical tests that will be given during our spring testing season. We ask all students to prepare and do their best to represent Largo on these important assessments.

Congratulations to Keoni Scott-Reid and Noah Hinnant, they are heading to Chicago in April to compete in The Urban Debate National Championship!
School Facility Upgrades Starting Spring 2017
Performing Arts Department
In-school collaboration presentation on February 16th 2017. In celebration of Black History Month, two Black History Presentations were showcased at Largo High School inclusive of the following programs and departments. JROTC (Barnes/Brown), African Student Association (Dejournette). Drama, Music (Choir/Band), Dance, and International High School at Largo (Hanks-Sloan/Forbes)....This presentation was further showcased at Reid Christian Academy, Woodstream Christian Academy, SHABACH Christian Academy and General Smallwood Middle School in Charles County.
PERFORMING ARTS COMMUNITY RELATIONS EVENTS
- Jan 29th- Black History Exhibit Performance- Montpelier arts center (Laurel MD)
- Arts and Cultural Division-Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Planning
- February 15th- Prince George's County Administration Building Black History Performance hosted by County Exec. Rushern Baker and Councilman Derrick Leon Davis
- January 18th - Largo Performing Arts recognized at Fort Belvoir VA for MLK Observance Performance (Choir, Drama, Dance)
- January 19th- Largo Performing Arts recognized at Fort Meade MD for MLK Observance Performance (Choir, Drama, Dance)
- February 4th - Largo HS Band wins Battle of the Drumlines at Cardozo HS (Washington DC)
- March 11th-Largo Dancers perform for PGCPS Dance Showcase at Bladensburg HS
- (Student’s Dances performed and created for this were based on social justice movement)
- MARCH-- Largo Music Department purchases 8 digital pianos for the Piano Lab
- March 29th-Largo Choir- PGCPS Choral Assessment at Bowie HS and earns Proficient Rating of 2+
ARTS INTEGRATION ACTIVITIES
- Washington Performing Arts Provides In-Class Residency from Feb 14th- Mar 20th
KanKouran West African Dance Company- Experience Africa
"Experience Africa" gives students a hands-on cultural experience that takes them into the heart of West Africa. Participants receive an introduction to the history, language, and techniques of traditional West African dance, learning timing, speed, tempo, rhythm, and focus – all of which emphasize concentration, balance, stabilization, and impact on movement.
- March 10-Music Technology Class Field Trip to Omega Recording Studios (Rockville MD)
- March 16th- Young Audiences of Maryland provided performance of "The Secret Life of Bees" for English and Drama Classes

Largo HS Fine Arts Department (Choir, Instrumental and Dance programs) is being recognized by the GRAMMY Recording Academy Washington DC Chapter. They will be performing and presenting the community with a "Thank You Concert". Nearly one hundred high school students will be performing for this event.

Art Department Updates
March was YOUTH ART MONTH. Please see the images from the Countywide Mall Show. Largo had one student piece going on to YAM (Youth Art Month), a juried art show. Tamiya Ford created a photomontage in her digital photography class, it was selected by the committee at the end of Mall Show to appear in the YAM show in April for further judging on the High School level. It may also show at the Fine Arts Gala.
A student won 2nd place in the "Teen Dating Violence Awareness" art contest. Students had to depict in a piece of art what a healthy relationship looks like to them.
Ziya Porter won 2nd place for her painting, that is on display at Prince George's Community College.
