COVID-19 Close Contact Update
The Los Angeles Department of Public Health has updated their definition of close contact and masking requirements for asymptomatic exposed students.
Close Contact: Persons are considered to have been exposed to a case (close contact) during the infectious period if they shared the same indoor airspace at school with the infected person for 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. In large indoor airspaces, those considered exposed may be limited to 1) those in a pre-defined or identifiable group (e.g., teammates, club members, cohort, etc.) or 2) those within 6 feet of the infected person for 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. NOTE: Persons with an outdoor exposure at school are not considered close contacts.
In order to remain on campus, asymptomatic exposed students are required to test within 3-5 days after last exposure and mask around others indoors, except while eating or drinking for 10 days after last exposure. These updated masking and testing requirements for asymptomatic exposed students will go into effect on May 4, 2022 and May 5, 2022 for students exposed during athletics.
Due to these new exposure updates we will be moving to a group notification when a positive case is reported during the infectious period. This means all students receiving the group notification will need to wear a mask indoors for 10 days around others and test within 3-5 days after exposure. The District continues to offer testing through World United at the Nutrition Center located at 10247 Alondra Blvd, Bellflower, CA 90706 Monday-Friday 7:00-9:00 A.M. and 2:00-4:00 P.M.
We are required to follow these new exposure guidance and appreciate the cooperation of all our families so that we may continue to keep our schools safe through a shared responsibility.

3 BUSD schools selected for the California Pivotal Practice Award!
Baxter Elementary
The focus of our school is to provide the highest quality educational program for all students. Our staff regularly use Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Results-oriented, Time-bound (SMART) goals in academic areas to improve student achievement. Academics were only one area of need for our students. More and more, our school began to see student needs in the area of social emotional learning.
Using the results from Panorama student and staff surveys, our Positive Behavior Supports and Intervention (PBIS) Team identified school connectedness as an area of focus for our school starting in 2017.
Esther Lindstrom Elementary
A practice in which we were able to pivot during distance learning was in Parent, Family, and Community Involvement by leveraging digital communication. Immediately we recognized the need to establish new and creative ways to guarantee home/school communication. Virtual Family Forums became the way to strengthen our family engagement, foster student learning, and maintain a positive school culture.
