6th Grade Social Studies PD
World Geography and Global Issues - Instruction & Resources
Description of PD Series
One approach to teaching students how to meet Michigan’s Grade Level Content Expectations (GLCEs) is to make the 6th grade course one that is focused on World Geography and Global Issues. In fact, that approach will be necessary in order to be fully aligned to the revised GLCEs, soon to be presented for approval to the State Board of Education.
A group of Michigan Intermediate School Districts and Service Agencies are collaborating with the Michigan Geographic Alliance (MGA) to offer a professional development series that will enable classroom teachers to implement effective instructional practices and high quality resources provided by MGA.
This professional development series is designed to help 6th grade Social Studies teachers upgrade their instructional practices, coupled with increasing their depth of understanding of geography. Whether you are using MC3 or some other curriculum, the free lesson plans, instructional practices, and resources provided will be very beneficial.
