Face Masks Required at Indoor School Events
For purposes of this protocol, approved face masks include homemade or store-bought cloth face masks, surgical masks, or transparent/clear face masks that cover the individual’s face from the bridge of the nose to snugly under the chin and fit snugly against the sides of the face with no gaps for air to enter or exit. Face masks must comply with all applicable CCSD policies, regulations, and dress codes pertaining to student and staff attire.
Types of Face Masks
Face masks with one-way valves or vents are not allowed unless covered with a cloth face mask (one-way valves allow air to be exhaled through the valve).
Face masks are recommended to be made with multiple layers (current recommendations are two layers of tightly woven cloth (cotton preferred) and one layer of synthetic material that can be repeatedly washed.
Standard face/neck gaiters (minimal filtration) and bandanas, which do not correctly cover the nose and mouth, may only be worn if layered.
Face shields are not a replacement for face masks, given concerns over their inability to minimize droplets spread to others. A surgical or cloth mask must be worn under a shield unless an accommodation has been granted.

Band Winter Concert
Orchestra Winter Concert
Because of our google meet classes last year, this was also the first performance for the intermediate orchestra. The intermediate orchestra students were faced with many difficulties of not being able to play in person last year, but when they came back this year, they were able to put together a whole year's worth of music in one semester. The conquest started out as a dream, but it turned out to be a wonderful reality and experience.
What can we say about the advanced orchestra? Well, the music they played spoke for itself. Pages full of music were played with many musical elements including dynamics, style, and articulation. Finally, our last group of the night was the chamber orchestra. There is nothing but appreciation I have for these students that come in day after day to stay after and learn more music after a long day of school. Thank you students and parents!
December's Painting Party
Wreaths Across America
On Saturday, December 18, 2021, 14 NJHS student members including four Burkholder families laid 141 wreaths at the Boulder City Veterans Cemetery for the annual “Wreaths Across America” ceremony. Many thanks to all who sponsored a wreath or provided funds to purchase wreaths in support of our annual tradition to Remember, Honor, and Teach.
Our two Burkholder NJHS sponsors, Ms. Cazett and Ms. Pande, have done a marvelous job in sponsoring and promoting this worthy cause. Again, Thank you all for your support!
