“Flowers for Fighters” fundraiser a HUGE success!

West Cypress Hills 5th grade Kardivas girls would like to extend a GIANT “Thank you!” to our students and families for your extremely generous participation in the recent “Flowers for Fighters” fundraiser! Thanks to the kind-heartedness of WCH families, the Kardivas team was able to donate ONE-HUNDRED-AND-EIGHTY-FIVE (185!!!) backpacks to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center! Please remind your children that their "flower cards" will be personally delivered by Keeley Cooper to cancer patients at M.D. Anderson, when she goes in for her own appointment in April. We wish Keeley the very best in April and ongoing. Keeley will also take the 185 backpacks at that time, and the hospital will give every new cancer patient their very own backpack! These are used for containing their personal items while maneuvering around the large campus for their multiple appointments. Kardivas is extremely proud of this outpouring of love and generosity from WCH. Many, many “ thanks!” :)

WCH Mather Minds- Mathematical Olympiads

Our WCH Math Team took part in various math events this year including Math League and Math Olympiad competitions. During their club meetings they focus on mental math tips and tricks (supporting number sense) and also work on critical thinking, problem solving and efficient strategies to solve complex word problems.

Eight of these students attended the Math League Qualifier at the Harmony school for Political Sciences on the 11th of February. The following Tigers competed against over 800 students from surrounding areas and qualified for State-Level competition:

Third Graders

Pedro Alvarez - 1st Place

Daylen Regner - 7th Place

Marcus Ryan - 8th Place

4th Graders

Maeve Acuna - 6th Place

5th Graders

Lily Peters - 9th place

Pedro Alvarez, Maeve Acuna, Swaraa Iyer and Lily Peters together as a team won the 4th place in Sweepstakes. Pedro Alvarez and Swaraa Iyer qualified for State in this Event. Pedro Alvarez placed 5th overall in nation-wide Math Olympiad competition!

The State competition will be held on the 13th of May in Houston. Fort Settlement Middle School in Sugar Land will be hosting the event.

We couldn't be more proud of these Tigers!

We would like to thank Ms. Macintyre, Ms. Hicks and our parent leader, Abhirami Raghavan for their support and guidance for these amazing students.

WCH Watch DOGS are SUPER!

Thank you, Watch DOGS, for resetting and servicing all of the clocks around our campus. We appreciate your help in making our switch to Daylight Saving Time easier!

Vision and Hearing Certification Class

Lake Travis ISD will be hosting a vision and hearing certification class for parents interested in obtaining this certification. The certification would enable you to volunteer at the school and help the school nurse with vision and hearing screenings. There is no fee for this class. The class will be held at the Education Development Center on April 5 and April 6 from 8:00 until 3:00 both days. The certification is good for five years and can be used to perform vision and hearing screenings at any school, preschool or day care in the state of Texas.

Please contact our school nurse Mrs. Hensel if you are interested.
