Week of January 27-31, 2020

A Note From Mrs. Garrison

Friday, January 31st, is the last day to order a yearbook for your child! The PTO has a very limited supply of yearbooks available at the end of the year. If you are wanting a yearbook this year, order one today!

The 2020-2021 School Year Calendar has been approved for next year and is shown below.

Conroe ISD will be expanding all current half-day prekindergarten programs to full day in the 2020-21 school year. Currently, Houser and Houston Elementary Schools are the only campuses to operate full-day prekindergarten programs. The expansion is in response to the House Bill 3 requirement that all prekindergarten programs operate as full-day programs. Registration for the 2020-21 school year will take place April 20-24. Eligibility determination and enrollment will take place at the elementary school to which the student is zoned. Please visit www.conroeisd.net/ci/early-childhood/ for more information.

Have a great weekend!

Lisa

Attention Third Grade parents

Powell 3rd graders have a half-time performance coming up on Tuesday, January 28 at The Woodlands High School at 7:00. Third grade students should have gotten a paper with all the information about each of the programs. Please return the bottom portion of the paper letting us know if your child will be attending the half-time program.

News from the Technology Lab

Have you heard about the Ozobot lesson in our Technology lab? Third and Fourth grade students are learning to write code for the tiny toy robot Ozobot bit. All grade levels will have a chance to experience with Ozobot.

Ozobot is a little toy robot that blends the physical and digital worlds — and teaches kids programming. Ozobot can identify lines, colors, and codes on both digital surfaces, such as an iPad, and physical surfaces.

Students have been very eager to know where you can purchase Ozobot. Ozobot can be purchased from Amazon for just under $50.00 Below is a link should your family be interested in purchasing an Ozobot.

Powell Carnival Sponsorship Opportunity

This is the last week to be a sponsor of this year's carnival!

Powell Elementary PTO is seeking families and businesses to sponsor games and booths at the annual Spring Carnival. With a student population of 800+, this popular event is a great marketing opportunity for businesses and a wonderful way to support your local school! In recognition of your sponsorship, a sign listing your family or business name will be placed next to the booth. Sponsorships of $100 or more will also receive name recognition on the PTO banner hung in front of carline. Show your Powell Pride and become a sponsor today!

*Carnival sponsorships help support technology upgrades, admission for every student to attend school field trips, and playground enhancements. The PTO will provide sponsors with a donation tax receipt. If you would like to sponsor a game or booth, please return the completed form with payment to Powell Elementary PTO by Friday, January 31st.
