Jag News
Weekly Updates for Sept 28 - Oct 2
Message from the Principal
Progress reports for the first six weeks of school will be viewable on the Student & Family Access portals Wednesday! At this time we are still in Phase 2 for kids returning to campus. For the rest of our Jags, we are hoping to see more of you soon. All of this depends on everyone doing their part to stay safe and well during this time. We will send more information regarding Phase 3 & 4 as soon as we know when they will start.
Every week we have more groups and teams getting involved with their activities and games! Please check the information below or the calendar on the CTJ webpage for information about games and activities!
We have three weeks until the end of the first nine week grading period. Please continue to work hard and keep up with your work and attendance. When you have a question, please reach out to your teacher first as they can help you directly.
Sincerely,
Gary Comalander - Principal

Attendance & Grades Reminders
As we finish six weeks, the number one battle is still missing work and attendance when a student is not working in the live online classroom. The majority of failing grades are due to a student being 'absent' during the live session and either not logging in through Launchpad to get attendance credit before midnight.
Attendance: please help remind your son/daughter that they must login through Launchpad (especially during asynchronous time) and do the attendance check before midnight each day to gain attendance credit for each class. Going straight to the Zoom link because it is faster will cause attendance issues.
Grades: missing work is increasing each week. Please encourage your son/daughter to get work turned in on time.
We know this is a tough time as kids are often on their own to get up and be online live with the teacher. Please encourage and check with your son/daughter that they are online live as much as possible. Skyward Family Access portal is a great place to check on their progress.
We have finished 6 weeks of the first 9 week grading period. With 3 weeks to go, now is the time to catch up and keep up with work.
We appreciate everything you are doing in these tough times and tough learning situations. Please don't hesitate to contact your child's teacher, counselor, or administrator when needing help or when you have questions.
Phase-In 2 Requirements for students
We are in week two of Phase 2. The following are requirements for each student.
- You must bring your own device to work virtually in a synchronous time with each of your classes.
- You must bring the power cord to keep your device charged.
- Student must have earbuds or headphones to listen to their classes.
- Students will be expected to wear their mask all day, except while eating in a socially distance atmosphere in the cafeteria or courtyard.
- Students will go to the cafeteria for their lunchtime. Students may bring their own lunch or buy their lunch in the cafeteria from a limited menu. Seating will be socially distanced.
Please understand that changes can be made as deemed necessary.

NHS Applications
Last week marks the week of NHS Invitational Letter distribution! On Monday, September 21st, at approximately 4:30 PM, a letter was emailed to your student if he or she qualified. The first qualification is to have an UNWEIGHTED 90 or above for the cumulative GPA.
The letters were sent to your student’s NEISD email. Please strongly encourage them to open the letter. In the letter several dates are included:
- September 28th – informational meeting, this will be recorded for anyone who cannot attend or make it in.
- October 9th @11:59 PM is the application deadline – this is a hard deadline. NO applications will be accepted after, the link closes then. We are taking NO applications shared or emailed. Please be cognizant of this deadline as failing to abide by it omits the application. You can always submit early to prevent technology issues.
- October 26th – is when letters of acceptance/denial are distributed through student email
- Week of November 9th – some type of ceremony in which students will be honored and celebrated (the official date and details are TBA)
Tonight, Monday, September 28th there will be an informational meeting for students at 6:30 PM held via Zoom on how to fill out the application best. Please find the link in the invitational letter. While we invite parents to listen in, only students have access to the link through their NEISD student login.
*Note: attendance to this meeting does NOT guarantee admittance but is to clarify what goes in each section and how best to present oneself. The Faculty Council will then score based on representation of the pillars.
