Low self esteem is a thinking disorder with boys and girls. Having low self esteem can mean that you see yourself in a negative manner, or just don't feel about towards yourself. It affects your views on one's appearance, abilities, and personality. A low self esteem can be associated with self doubt, self criticism, social isolation, and shame. Problems with self esteem affecting teens can lead to many short, and long term issues. Some teens face problems like cutting, depression, lack of sleep, bullying, anxiety, and a poor academic performance. Some even result to long term issues with eating disorders, self destruction, and possibly cosmetic surgery. A low self esteem is a serious issue within teens today that can be conquered over with the right help.
How to Improve Self Esteem:
- Positive self talk
- Don't compare yourself to others
- Exercise
- Don't strive for perfection
- Do things you enjoy
- Surround yourself with supportive people
- Celebrate the small stuff
- Good vibes
Building your self-esteem can be easy, or hard depending on how quick someone can fall in love with themselves. The main problem with low self-esteem is that it originates with stereotypes from media, the environment, and even your personal mind. However, this burden that teenagers put on themselves to feel, or look a certain way can be overpowered. By starting off small, and learning to appreciate your flaws, and what makes you who you are as a person. Also, by doing things of your interest, that make you happy, can play a big role in conquering over that burden. The main pathway to building self-esteem, starts with you.
