Letters of Recommendations for College Applications Due Over Winter Break

Many of you have been applying to colleges these past few months and your counselors have been working hard on writing letters of recommendations. If you will be applying to a school that has a deadline over the Winter Break, please check in with us a few weeks before school closes so that we have time to work on your applications. Over the break we will have limited access to email and may not see a last minute request come in. We will be off from December 18 - January 11, plan accordingly.

Counseling Office Tip of the Month- with Interactive Lessons

This month we bring you tips on how to be a successful student. This presentation focuses on goal setting and time management techniques. Check it out and see how you can become a more successful student.

Check out these interactive lessons from Nearpod for more information on Time Management and Goal Setting.

Grade Reporting Update

Grades for periods 0, 2 ,4, 6 and 7-9 will be final on December 18, with grades posting to transcripts for all courses (quarter 1 and quarter 2 classes) in January after the Winter Break.

To view report cards online through the portal, follow the these steps as they will not be mailed home.

Contact Your Teachers

Do you have a question about assignments, grades or other classroom related material? Contact your teacher for more information. They are your best source of information for all things pertaining to their class. Emails and phone numbers are provided. Please allow 24-48 hours for a response.

SCC Dual Enrollment Updates

A workshop is being held on Dec. 4 on how to apply for Spring 2021 dual enrollment courses through SCC.

SCC and VP are proud to offer MATH 105 to interested students who have completed Math 3 and are looking in taking an additional math course for dual enrollment. This class would be beneficial for students looking to have an additional year of math for a competitive edge on college applications. SCC is also offering a Math tutoring course to support students through the Math 105 course as well. See the attached flyers for course information and applications here:

Please email your counselor or our SCC rep directly at tran_loann@sccollege.edu if you have any questions regarding this course.

Credit Recovery

All students currently enrolled in credit recovery have until December 18th at noon to finish their course. Anything not completed by this time will be reset and courses will need to be started from the beginning when we return from Winter Break in January.

Students who are currently enrolled in the credit recovery program will be automatically rolled over to the Spring semester, if they still need it. Any student (grades 11 and 12 only) who fails a course in the fall will be signed up for credit recovery in the spring. Counselors will be reviewing transcripts when final grades are posted in January and reaching out to you with details.

Students in the 9th and 10th grade who fail a course will be recommended for summer school. Summer school sign-ups occur in May.

Action For Happiness- Do Good December 2020

2020 has been a difficult year in so many ways. We have suffered with uncertainty, anxiety, isolation and challenges with our financial situation, health or relationships. One thing that can hold us together and help us get through is kindness. Although we can't change our situation, we can choose to respond to others (and ourselves) with kindness. And when we're kind, everything goes better. We help others, we help ourselves and we encourage others to be kinder too.

Check out the Action for Happiness App. The app is like having a little personal action coach in your pocket who:

  • Gives you friendly 'nudges' with an action idea each day
  • Sends you inspiring messages to give you a boost
  • Helps you connect & share ideas with like-minded people
