Cedar Grove Friday Flash
March 2, 2018
Dear Cedar Grove Families,
As you know, safety is our highest priority. In response to ongoing safety concerns expressed by staff and parents, we are collaborating with the MCPS Department of Transportation and the Systemwide Safety Programs Office on possible changes and upgrades to our bus and car traffic patterns in our driveways and parking lots during arrival and dismissal times. A range of possibilities will be considered, from changes in drop-off locations within our existing footprint to physical alterations to the structure of the lots. In the meantime, we encourage you to honor the existing traffic pattern, drive courteously, and utilize the bus transportation available to you whenever possible.
In addition, Montgomery County Public Schools are requiring all schools to practice a second lockdown drill before the end of March. We will make sure students understand that this is a drill, and there is no need for concern. We appreciate your support in helping your child to understand that these drills are important safety practices that must be conducted periodically.
As a reminder, anyone who visits the school must identify themselves and state the nature of the school visit. Please be sure to have identification with you. This will be required, even if you are known to the office staff.
Please see the link below for the Media Monthly. Thank you.

Interim Grades
Parents, please note that interim grades, or progress reports, will be available on the parent portal as of March 9. As noted in earlier newsletters and to honor our green school efforts, we will no longer be sending home paper copies to all students; however, some students will receive hard copies of the progress reports with a request that parents review, sign, and return it to their child's teacher.
In order to view your child's interim grades, you will need to access the parent portal after creating an account. The portal can be found using the following link: https://portal.mcpsmd.org. You will need to click on "Create Account" and agree to the terms. You will be asked to provide a user name and password. These were sent to you earlier in the school year in the form of a letter from our central office. Once you access the portal, you will need to complete the parent information and link your child or children. If you have an existing account because you have a middle or high school student, please do not create another account. In this case, you would add your elementary child or children in Account Preferences within the current account. Please note that if you have an MCPS email address, it will not work in the portal; a personal email must be used. If you need assistance, please call the school and we will help you access the portal.
Readathon Begins Today!
We are so excited about our Readathon this year! We’re ready to exceed our school goal of reading 275,000 minutes between March 2 and March 15! We have planned all kinds of great incentives to help our readers meet their individual goals – including our famous Read Aloud Night on March 8, that gives them double points for attending. We have both individual and class prizes for our readers who follow and meet our guidelines!
But we need your help. Please have your students return their signed forms by the deadlines so they can participate. Please RSVP on the Read Aloud Night Sign Up Genius so that your students can get the read aloud sessions of choice. Please make sure you add the students' first and last names! We would love to have 100% student participation in our Read-athon this year!
