Lots of great things happened in our classrooms this week! Our library is officially open and kids have been able to check out books. What an amazing turn around. Our librarian, Tracie Bennett has done an incredible job getting everything ready. Students in GT, ESL, and Dyslexia and those that will work with our Intervention Support Specialist (IST) are gearing up for classes. Most will start next week. The specialists, Tara Yancy, Kim Webb, Elaine Bowersock, Heidi Serrano, Tammy Mack, Kim Taylor & Patti Bailey are excited to work with their students.
Our PTA is working very hard to get everything up and running. Our teachers, staff, and administration believe in a strong partnership with all members of the PTA Board, chairs, volunteers, and general members. I am so excited to work with everyone so that we can truly build the best PTA in all of Keller ISD. Please do not hesitate to contact our PTA with questions, to find out ways you can help, or to just to say hi. PTA President, Samantha Meaney and all of the board can be reached by emailing sunsetpta23@gmail.com
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Remember, Monday is a holiday. See everyone back here again on Tuesday.
Bobcat Proud,
Kristen

PBIS
PBIS is a decision making framework that guides selection, integration, and implementation of the best evidence-based academic and behavioral practices for improving important academic and behavior outcomes for all students. PBIS focuses on POSITIVE behaviors with clear expectations across a school campus. The goal is to be more proactive in preventing negative student behaviors.
Sunset Valley Bobcat PRIDE: Prepared Respectful Intentional Dedicated Encouraging
The key words used in PRIDE are the bedrock of our PBIS system at Sunset Valley. We systematically teach and acknowledge appropriate behaviors through clear expectations. PRIDE is referenced every day and provides consistency across our campus. Staff members will address positive and negative behaviors, while building a positive, flexible environment. Students will be rewarded with Bobcat Bucks from any staff member when they follow PRIDE. Our campus will provide various ways for students to spend Bobcat Bucks in the classroom and at school-wide celebrations.
Join us on September 8 from 6:00 - 6:30 to learn more about PBIS. This session is being offered in between the two parent orientation times.

Save the Date for the 17th Annual Run in the Dark ~ Saturday, September 17th!!
The Community Storehouse's 17th Annual Run in the Dark event is scheduled for September 17, 2016, at Alliance Town Center's Bluestem Park.
Each year, the event draws more and more runners participating in the one-mile fun run and 5K race. Whether you choose to become a sponsor, volunteer your time, or put together a team to run, you are helping at-risk children in the greater Keller community.
All proceeds from Run in the Dark go back to children in our area, providing essential services to prevent hunger and provide educational support, resources, and stability. There are more than 2,000 children locally who cannot afford school supplies; 3,000 local children cannot afford educational assistance; 7,000 local children cannot afford nutritional support; and more than 12,000 local children need the Community Storehouse.
Discounted rates are available to friends and families who sign up with their child's school. To register, visit www.RunInTheDarkDFW.com and register under the "Schools/Storehouse Cup" category. If you do not see Sunset Valley, it should be listed there soon. Registering through a Keller ISD school not only earns a discounted rate, but T-shirts and bibs will be delivered directly to the student's campus, making it even easier on parents.
The campus with the most runners will win the coveted "Storehouse Cup Trophy." This will be the ninth year for Community Storehouse to award the trophy to the school with the highest participation. There will again be two trophies awarded – one for Elementary/Intermediate and one for Middle/High Schools. A school team consists of children and adults who register under their school's name.
