The Beginning, Gallipoli 1914

The Gallipoli Campaign was also known as the Dardanelles Campaign or the Battle of Gallipoli or the Battle of Canakkale. Aiming to secure a sea route to Russia, the British and French launched a naval marine campaign to force a passage through the Dardanelles.

- In the summer, the heat was atrocious, and in conjunction with bad sanitation

- The significance of the Gallipoli Campaign is felt strongly in both New Zealand and Australia

- The campaign was the first major battle undertaken by the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps
