district-wide hat day on October 7th!
In their social studies class, students in Ms. Pienta’s class at Kidder Elementary School learned about their right to petition and how that can help change the world around them. They invited Mr. Niedermeyer, the Superintendent, to discuss a petition they created for a district-wide hat day to support school spirit. Thoroughly impressed with their presentation, Mr. Niedermeyer declared Friday, October 7th, a hat spirit day across the district! We encourage all students and staff to wear their favorite school-appropriate hats to promote school spirit. Thank you to Ms. Pienta’s students for organizing this initiative!

Counselor Update--8th Grade
8th Grade Students will be working with Mrs. Butzier to complete new lessons on the Naviance Program through science classes in the month of October. Specific dates per team will be shared in the teams weekly newsletter. Naviance is a college and career exploration website. All Brunswick Middle School students have a Naviance account and will do different activities with their school counselor each year. The link to Naviance is in student Google Apps. Please take some time to have your child show you this wonderful college and career readiness resource.
Also, in October, 8th grade students will be participating in a presentation through Language Arts class called LifeAct. LifeAct is a depression awareness and suicide prevention program. LifeAct is a two day presentation that is designed to educate students on signs and symptoms of depression, teach them how to engage with others that they are concerned about and empower them to seek out help for themselves or others. Please see team newsletters for the exact dates your child’s team will receive this presentation.
8th grade Minute Meetings with their school counselor will begin in October and continue through November. Minute meetings are a quick check-in with each student during PRIDE Time to discuss academic progress as well as assist in the areas of career and social/emotional development.
