PROGRESS REPORTS, Fees Owed Letters, Exam Schedule, and Registration Cards

On Monday, May 16, 2016, students should receive the following to take home as shared with parents on Sunday night's phone message:

  1. Progress Report
  2. Letter indicating any fees still owed (school, cafe and media center fees)
  3. Exam Schedule
  4. Registration Cards for 6th and 7th graders

On May 24, please take and administer the flex group surveys for staff and students. Each survey is short and will not take more than a few minutes to take. All homeroom teachers and all students should take the surveys.

Confiscating and Searching Student Technology--important reminders

Teachers may not request a district level search, school level search (by Mr. Willis) or conduct any search of any student’s laptop other than as indicated in #1 below.

Please review the information below.

  1. If a teacher notices that a student is on an inappropriate site or accessing questionable content, then the teacher/administrator may review the current activities in question, but if a more in depth search is required, this search must be performed through the IT Department at the central office.
  2. Only an administrator may request that a student’s laptop be confiscated and searched for questionable activity.
  3. This request must be made by the school administration to the IT Director.
  4. Only district level IT personnel (IT Director and designee(s)) may perform the search of a student’s laptop. School level IT Technicians, Digital Learning and Teaching Facilitators, and Media Coordinators will not confiscate or search any student device for questionable activity.

End of Year Celebration and the unConference

Thursday, June 9th, 12:30pm

NWPMS Media Center

Our End of Year Celebration will begin at 12:30 pm in the Media Center following our attendance at the unConference. This year, we will attend two 45 minute sessions (of your choice) and two Poster Sessions (of your choice). The unConference begins at 8:00 am and ends at 1:00 pm. Registration hasn't opened yet.

Our very own Amanda Pelch and Angie Kautter are presenting a Poster session at the unConference!!

Strategic Plan Spring Review

Each grade level and encore have one of the four strategic goals to review. The task: Review each activity for the assigned goal and determine if the activity is Complete, In Progress or Not Started. Ask your SPT representative for details. Use the attached template for your feedback. Type and return electronically to Mrs. Garland and CC Mrs. Bethea.

NWPMS Student Handbook Review

It's also time to review the Student Handbook and the SPT representatives were instructed to facilitate a discussion of the school policies. The policies/rules must be agreed upon to ensure consistency in enforcing the policies in 2016-17. Return feedback by May 31 to Mrs. Hoffman and CC Mrs. Garland and Mrs. Bethea.

2016-2017 OCS Employee Transfers

Personnel interested in transferring to another Onslow County School should review the attached form. The window to pursue a transfer opens on April 15 and closes on July 11, 2016. The closing date for transfers is firm with OCS Human Resources.

Media Center -- Time to start checking in those books!

The Media Center will close on May 27 for the remainder of the year to give Ms. Tobin time to collect books and equipment. Share this with students so they know they will not be able to check out any books after this date.
If you haven't contributed to the 2015-16 Sunshine Fund, please consider doing so this week. The Sunshine Fund is used for a variety of staff related activities to include: flowers for staff (due to births, hospitalization, and other events), retirement gifts at our End of Year Celebration, purchases for staff celebrations and other activities. All Sunshine Funds are used to support our Dolphin Staff.
