"Connections Being Made"
Greetings Woodcrest families,
We’re making connections – here in our Woodcrest building and online. In the last week, I visited Extended Flexible Learning classrooms and had the chance to see some extraordinary learning and happy, smiling faces. I also had the chance to meet with a number of our Extended Flexible Learning teachers and heard about some of the exciting things they are doing to make learning for children who are doing distance learning meaningful and engaging.
One of my favorite highlights is in our 1st grade. Homeroom teachers shared stuffed animals with their students and encourage them to read to their new stuffed friend. It is a joy to see how something as small as including a stuffed animal in the daily routine of our students can build community among a group of students who meet remotely AND create a love of literacy.
As you prepare for the next few weeks, please keep the following days on your radar:
- February 12 – There will be no school for students. This day is set aside for teachers to use for communication with families, including parent/teacher conferences. Your child’s teacher should have already reached out to you with an opportunity to meet. They will work with you to find a time to meet with you either on February 12 or by the end of the month. We are committed to maintaining the important partnership between your child’s classroom and their home and this is one of the ways we are doing that.
- February 15 – No school for all students. This is the President’s Day holiday.
Here at Woodcrest, we are wearing our SLP gear or school colors (red and blue) through February 12 as a part of Panthers for a Purpose. We hope you and your family will get involved as we come together to support the Weekend Food Pack program that helps students stay fed over weekends and breaks. This is another great opportunity to celebrate our relationships as a school community and our Panther Pride.
With great thanks,
Lost and Found
