2018-2019 Student Leadership Building Jobs
Eagles are LEADERS! Introducing our 2018-2019 Student Leadership Building Jobs. Our goal is for ALL Eagles to SOAR in one of these building jobs. The excitement is growing as we implement these roles in each grade level. Yes, Eagles always SOAR!
Piloting AVID - New opportunity for our EAGLES
Three Park Hill elementary schools: English Landing, Prairie Point, and Renner, are piloting AVID Elementary during the 2018-2019 school year. AVID Elementary focuses on teaching and reinforcing academic behaviors and higher-level thinking. AVID Elementary provides educators a structure for teaching students the academic habits they need to be more successful in middle school, high school, and college or career, in an age-appropriate and challenging way. The strong college-bound culture will be visible to encourage elementary students to begin thinking about their future while embedding these AVID skills of Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading into grade level curriculum. Throughout this first school year of AVID Elementary, families will see K-5 classrooms adopt age-appropriate Organization systems to develop greater independence for ALL students including the use of daily visual schedules, student academic binders, and grade level planners.

Park Hill Redistricting Overview
Redistricting Overview
In preparation for the opening of Hopewell Elementary and Walden Middle School for the 2019-2020 school year, and in order to balance our very different high school enrollments, we will be redistricting all of our attendance boundaries, from elementary through high school. Redistricting will help us continue to be one of the best districts around by protecting our low class sizes and making sure we can balance our resources.
The redistricting committee meetings will be open to the public, if you want to observe them. We will also host public input meetings and provide an online feedback tool to get your thoughts on the committee's ideas before the Board sets the new attendance areas. Watch for more information about those opportunities later in the fall. The Board plans to make its decision in December.
Have YOU joined our English Landing PTA? Please consider doing this for the 2018-2019 school year. A PTA membership is $8.00 or a Business membership is $50.00.

Final Request: School Supply SHOP Donations Needed
At English Landing we have a school supply SHOP where we provide school supplies to students who join our school community and need school supplies. As shared in our Back to School News, this year the Seattle Fish Company in Riverside, Missouri, donated many school supplies for our students who have financial constraints.
This has been a busy week for our school supply SHOP!
We need to restock the following school supplies:
- School Supply Boxes (Not a pencil pouch)
- Dry Erase Markers
- Single Subject Wide Rule Spiral Notebooks
- Pencils (Number 2)
If you would like to donate any of these school supplies, please bring the items to the English Landing School Office or send the donated supplies to school with your child.
Thank you!
Our English Landing school community is always so generous and we are PROUD to provide school supplies for ALL students who needed this assistance. Thank you!

Exterior Doors are LOCKED During the School Day
Introducing the CALL BOX System
Parents/guardians are welcome to request a visit to the school. When planning to visit, please contact the office at least one day in advance so the building principal can set a schedule. The principal has the discretion to set reasonable parameters on school visits (length of stay, number of visitors, etc.). Visitors should limit their visit to the area(s) of the building they have indicated upon check-in with the office. Unauthorized persons found on school property may be subject to arrest or other legal action.
Will all Exterior Doors be LOCKED During the School Day? Visitors must enter the building using the front doors and report to the office. If a visitor needs to enter the building farther than the school office or check out a student, the visitor must register by presenting a valid, state-issued ID to the school’s office staff. Any visit after the first registration will only require a visitor to check in at a kiosk using a valid, state-issued ID.
Do I need to bring my state-issued ID every time when visiting English Landing? Yes. Visitors entering the school beyond the office must present a valid, state-issued ID and receive a printed ID sticker that must be worn and visible during the entire stay. Friends of students may not be brought to school or arrive at school as visitors. Unruly or disruptive conduct by visitors that interferes with the educational environment or with extracurricular activities may result in limited access or revocation of visitor privileges to school property or functions.
What is the process for eating lunch with my child? In most cases, parents/guardians are allowed to visit school and eat lunch with their child. The school, however, reserves the right to limit lunch visits in appropriate circumstances. Parents/guardians planning to eat lunch with their child should notify the school office one day in advance. Bringing outside restaurant food is strongly discouraged. If parents or family members want to join their child for lunch they are encouraged to eat school lunch or bring a sack lunch from home. If parents or family members choose to bring restaurant food to English Landing, which is strongly discouraged in the 2018-2019 Park Hill handbook, then an alternative location will be arranged.
Visitor Information
We listened to your ideas for safety, and we incorporated them into our improvements. Park Hill is installing video doorbells at all school entrances, so visitors must get buzzed in. The district is also upgrading the safety of other doors and the visitor management system.

Celebrating Birthdays at English Landing!
Celebrating Student Birthdays: (Park Hill Parent/Student Handbook pages 37-38):
We are happy to celebrate student birthdays and half birthdays (if your child has a summer birthday) at English Landing! To protect the health and safety of our students, families may bring pre-packaged treats to school to share with classmates. In order to address any known allergy concerns, a label listing ingredients should be affixed to the package. Due to allergies and other food intolerances, please consult with your classroom teacher before the pre-packaged treats are brought to school. As a healthier alternative, Park Hill Food Service offers a variety of nutritious treats that may be purchased.
At English Landing we need your HELP! Many birthday treats arrive at the beginning of the school day which provides us time to review the class list regarding food allergies or food intolerances, however, many other birthday treats arrive during lunch and often right at the same time the treat needs to be distributed to students. PLEASE plan on arriving earlier for lunch (at least 15 minutes) to give us time to check the pre-packaged treat ingredients with the students in the classroom who have food allergies or food intolerances. Our school nurse, Mrs. Kimbrel, and office staff, Mrs. Stevens, Mrs. Wood, or Mrs. Melvin, will help with this process so when the lunchroom staff teachers distribute the treat in the cafeteria, additional steps have been taken to ensure we are protecting the health and safety of our eagles.
