September in Focus
Stay up-to-date on PTA in Riverside County!
We've heard that sentence again and again (are you tired of hearing it yet? We know it's different - we're living it.). As PTA leaders, this isn't easy, and the questions that are hovering are really heavy - can we reach children and families this year? If so, how? Can we raise funds this year? If so, how? Can we gain members this year? If so, how?
There are so many questions - and unfortunately, as much as we wish we did have all the answers - just like it often happens in parenting - we don't. We have to do the best we can. Our mission - "to positively impact the lives of children and families" - stays the same. That mission encompasses all children, whether they are on campus or off. It means all families, whether we agree in every school of thought or not.
As we move closer to November 3, all the issues currently impacting our country, our students, and their education will rise into sharp relief, and it is incredibly vital to keep our focus. It is important to remember that kindness is one of the most valuable gifts we can give. Most importantly, we must remember that we don't always have to agree to do good together.
You are receiving this newsletter because as a PTA leader in Riverside County (Council or Unit), you are a part of the 23rd District PTA family. Each month, by the Monday following our Executive Board meeting (on the first Thursday), we'll be sending this newsletter to help support you! There is a whole chain of PTA support to help you - unit to council to district. Families support each other - and we are here to support you. You matter, and we are very glad that you are here.

Insurance Premiums (or Waiver Requests) Are Due to 23rd District PTA by DECEMBER 3, 2020!
Insurance Premiums and/or waiver requests MUST BE RECEIVED BY 23rd District PTA by December 3, 2020. Premiums received after December 3, 2020 will be subject to a $25 late fee.
Unit Premium: $258
Council Premium: $178
If remitting the insurance premium will cause undue hardship to the unit, an Insurance Waiver Request may be submitted (and is attached in two versions - standard and fillable). If your unit is submitting a waiver, DO NOT remit the premium payment to 23rd District PTA - remit the waiver request only, and DO NOT submit the insurance waiver directly to CAPTA. Waivers must be returned through channels. Council Presidents and out-of-council unit presidents can submit waiver requests to 23rd District directly by email to President@23rdDistrict.org.
Graduating Seniors - Scholarship Opportunity!
You'll find the application attached, and we're giving you plenty of time to share this with your units, considering the application isn't due until April 2021.
September is Suicide Prevention Month
How can your PTA help? Start an awareness campaign as an advocacy program. Help promote and advocate for mental health support for students and families, and ensure that all families in your community have access to resources such as helplines, text lines, and more. Everyone is fighting a fight that we will never see, and seeing the right message at the right time can save a life.
