Chelsea Weekly Update
May 19, 2023
--Paula, Rachel, and Ricky
May Student of the Month - Citizenship
We will be announcing Students of the Month on Wednesday morning, and packing up all of the Student of the Month shirts and medals shortly after, so please get those nominations in!
St. Anthony's Parking Lot / Door 16 Access
Next week, St. Anthony’s Church will be having maintenance work done on their parking lot that will affect arrival and dismissal routines for families who utilize Door 16, and parking routines for staff members who park at the church.
Next Tuesday, May 23, the east side of the St. Anthony’s parking lot will be closed. There will only be one way in or out of the lot on Tuesday. For those who drop off and pick up at Door 16, this could potentially make the lot more difficult to navigate.
On Thursday, May 25, the west side of the parking lot (closest to Chelsea) will be closed. We will not be able to use Door 16 for arrival or dismissal this day. All car riders must be picked up and/or dropped off at the west lot on Thursday. Please use caution if you choose to park on the west side of the lot on this day.
Rachel is sending an email out to all families this evening, and will do an additional reminder on Wednesday. If you are sending home any communication to your families, please include a reminder as well. Thank you!
Computer, Bag, and Charger Return
Third and fourth grade will collect bags and chargers starting on May 22. Fifth grade will collect chargers and check for bags on May 22. Maintenance will supply boxes for the chargers and bags - these will be dropped off in your room next week. Please do not label these boxes with a packing label. Please keep them separate from the boxes you are packing to be moved.
**Brian Higgins has asked that any third or fourth graders with stickers on their laptops try to remove them. Fifth grade laptops will be moving with the students, so their stickers can remain. Because third/fourth laptops will not travel with the kids, students need to do their best to remove the stickers.**
Once computer bags are collected, students may use their computers in their classroom but they may not travel around the building with their devices. By May 24 all chargers, bags, and devices should be accounted for.
Each grade level has an excel document (see below), and in the document each teacher has their own tab with a copy of your student roster. Please mark this document to confirm that each student has returned their bags, chargers, and devices. If a student does not have one of these items on the day of collection, please contact the parent (email is fine) and let them know. Hopefully, that reminder will be all we need to get those missing items back. If the items aren't returned after your reminders, families will be charged for those missing items. Tech/admin will take care of that on our end.
If there are students on your roster who did not enroll or who have left the district midyear, please just make a note of it on the spreadsheet, or mark the columns with N/A. If you have students who have moved in and there names are not present on your roster, please add them to the bottom. First and last name is fine - we can add any other info.
Thank you for helping us collect these valuable materials!
Field Day and Tug of War
The general schedule for the day (including Encore times) can be found below. Hard copies of your grade level's event schedule for Field Day were placed in your mailbox earlier this week. Remember that popsicles can be done with your class whenever you'd like - these will be stored in the south lunchroom freezer.
All Field Day volunteers should enter the building at Door 2 (by Rachel's office). All volunteers will be released to classrooms a few minutes before the start of your Field Day, so that they can walk out to your first event with your class.
We will have indoor recess in the classroom on Field Day. Admin will send out a supervision schedule on Monday.
Tug of War will be held on Thursday, May 25th in the North Gym. The schedule is below. Whose classes will reign supreme this year? We can't wait to find out!
May 26 Schedule and Clapout
We will also be continuing our tradition of the fifth grade Clap Out! Directions for the Clap Out are below, and we will put hard copies in your mailbox next week. We are very excited to honor our fifth graders next Friday!

Fall Club Opportunity
You do not need to know specific dates for a club right now - simply fill in the number of sessions you envision for your club.
We know it's hard to think so far ahead right now, but it's important from a budgetary standpoint for us to establish our clubs early.
If you have any questions, please see Rachel. Thank you for considering club sponsorship - our kids and families truly love the unique experiences our clubs provide!
May Shout Outs
Congratulations to our winners of the week: Gigi Lemmons, Kris Quilico, Peggy Jenner, Amanda Torres, and Cheryl Harris!
Here is Gigi's shoutout to Q: "Saving the best shout out for last!! Q has been an integral part of our classroom. She provides support to the entire class (including me!) Q is organized, understands what the students need- academically and emotionally, and is just an all-around AMAZING HUMAN! I am incredibly thankful and grateful that I had the opportunity to work with her. I owe my sanity (or whatever is left of it) to her! Our students had successful third grade experiences because of Q!"
Here is Peggy's shoutout to Amanda and Cheryl: "I wanted to say thank you for the warm welcome to the Chelsea Sped Team. They have a been a huge help in adjusting and answering any questions. Everyone has been very welcoming, and it's been great to collaborate with such a friendly and supportive team."
Winners, see Rachel to claim your prize.
23-24 Schedule
Thanks to Jenell Jaral and SLT for collaborating on this!
Reminder: May 26 FYI
Reminder: Advanced Placement
Reminder: End of Year Checklist
Reminder: Staff Placement Survey
We will use these recommendations, along with recommendations from the previous year, for 23-24 class placement.
Please enter any recommendations you have by the last day of school, May 26. Thank you!
Reminder: Individual Student Info - Placement
We know having two surveys can be cumbersome, but this is the clearest and most efficient way for us to organize the information so that we can use it during the placement process.
This survey is entirely optional. You are not expected to enter any information. We are providing it as an opportunity for you to give information on specific students that you feel should be shared for placement purposes. For example: positive peers, management style, etc.
This survey will remain open through the last day of school, May 26.
Reminders: Packing and Moving Info
We'll keep adding to this list of reminders/answers to questions as we move through the packing process:
- If you have files that need to be shredded, please box them up and label the box "Shredding." Wally and Steve will pick these boxes up and take them to District to be shredded
- If you have boxes that are packed, labeled, and ready for pick-up, email Wally and Steve and they will pick them up from your classroom. Do not set boxes in the hallway.
- If you need extra boxes, boxes of a different size, or labels, please enter your needs in the spreadsheet below and items will be delivered to you.
- We will not be able to use the north end as a storage area next year. This area will be keyed differently (we will not all have access) and will likely have minimal heating and cooling.
- If you are moving, everything must come off of the walls. Please do not leave anything.
- If you are moving, everything must be packed. You cannot leave items unpacked and plan to move them yourself in August. Everything will already have been moved to your new rooms over the summer - do NOT plan on returning to your old room in August.
- If you have an item of an unusual size or shape that needs to be packed, please talk to Wally or Steve and we will problem solve that situation. Most items should fit in the boxes or bags we have purchased.
- ALL LOCKERS NEED TO BE EMPTIED. Almost all of the lockers are being replaced, and the few we are keeping are being relocated. Do not leave items in lockers, even if they are unwanted - the demo team is not contracted for item removal.
- If you have textbooks that are outdated and/or no longer being used, these should be moved to one of two locations, so that we can donate or dispose of them later. If you are on the north end, you can place books on the shelves outside of the maintenance area (where Wally, Steve, and Nicky's offices are). If you are on the south or east end of the building, we will set up a table in the science lab/conference room for you to leave your books on.
- If you are NOT moving this year, you should shut down your room as usual. You may leave items on your walls. Please label your furniture with your name and room number as you have in the past.
