Ukraine Crisis
By Joseph Krum
How did it begin?
It all started on November 21 when Viktor Yanukovich announced the abandonment of a trade agreement with the EU. This lead to the start of the protests.
President Yanukovych
Why has he fled?
He said that he fled because of the "threats to his life" but another theory is that he was voted out by the Ukrainian Parliament.
Who are the protestors?
The protestors have been depicted as many different groups from many different journalists, but the more common ones are that they are either of a Europe-wide resurgence of chauvinistic nationalism or fighters of democracy.
Why did the unrest escalate in the past two month?
In the past month, this protest has escalated greatly because of the government. The government has started to kill protestors, and lots of them.
What role do Russia and the West play in the Ukrainian crisis?
Russia is the country that Ukraine is trying to seceede from, and Russia is actively trying to stop them with their force and gunpower. Ukraine is trying to start a civil war, while Russia is trying to stop it.
How do you think this conflict will end?
I think there are only 2 main ways that this conflict could end. One is a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine because Russia forced them to stop their protests and to be peaceful. The other is that Ukraine goes into a civil war and gets demolished by Russia and then joins back with Russia.
