FMS Hawk Talk
Admin Newsletter
It's Been a Great Start!
Welcome to another year of the FMS Hawk Talk-Admin Newsletter. We're off to an amazing start and are excited to work with your kids again this year. We've seen a renewed focus on learning by the kids after the summer so it's always fun to work with their eagerness. We also look forward to working with our families throughout the year as we help our kids navigate this unique time in their lives. Middle school is a special time when we get to see kids mature into young adults and prepare for their next big step in high school. It takes a village to help our kids succeed and we look forward to partnering with you again this year to help us on this journey. We'd like to encourage you to keep up with current events on our website, our Facebook page, and through the parent app. Below is a rundown of updates and events at FMS:
No School Dates: Students are out of school October 6th, 7th, & 10th. Staff will be doing professional development on the 10th.
Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) Meeting: Our PAC meeting will be October 4th from 5-6:00 pm in the FMS Library. The purpose behind these meetings is for FMS admin and parents to work together on school events, operations, and planning for our building. During this meeting we'll be going over our school improvement plan, getting feedback for our mission and vision statements, updates on programs in the school, and hearing feedback from parents.
Student Led Conferences: October 13th from 4-7:00 pm.
Teacher Communication to Parents: This is a reminder that teachers primarily use email for communication home about what is happening in their classes so please make sure you are checking messages regularly for updates.
Chromebooks: Students have been doing much better with their devices so far but we're seeing an increase in students intentionally damaging their devices (breaking the keys off and breaking screens are the main things we see). Please remember that students can be held responsible for repair or replacement costs for damages caused by neglect.
Veteran's Day Assembly: FMS will host a Veteran's Day assembly on November 11th from 1:00-2:15 in the gym. We'd like to invite our FMS parents and guardians to join us for the assembly and ask that you please RSVP Mr. Jensen at tejensen@kunaschools.org with the number of attendees in your party. Thank you.
PowerSchool Grades v. Schoology Grades: We have found a glitch in our new PowerSchool system that isn't transferring grades correctly from Schoology. We are fixing the issue so until that is resolved, please refer to Schoology for accurate grades.
Parent Volunteers: We're going to have some opportunities for some parent volunteers at FMS this year. If you are interested in being a volunteer at FMS or in our district there is an approval process through the district office. You can start here with the application process.
Cold Weather Process: The cold weather is around the corner (mornings have a little nip to them already). Please encourage your child to dress appropriately for the weather as we don't bring students inside unless there is inclement weather or the temperature drops below 22 degrees.
We appreciate your continued support of our children, our staff, and the FMS family.
Mr. Jensen & Mrs. Salois
