Newsletter Week 10 Term 1 2021
St Joseph's Catholic School Morrinsville 7 April 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora Koutou,
We hope you had a relaxing Easter break with your family. The weather was great and the time to reflect was just so precious. Holy Week is one of the most important times in our Catholic Faith and we are so grateful to be able to share this time as a school. A special thank you to Jemma Van Eijk our Director of Religious Studies, our staff and students for preparing some beautiful reflections last week.
Congratulations to Michelle Hinton who became a full member of the Catholic Church over Easter. It was so lovely that Zac could join his mum and become baptised together. This is such a big decision to make and we are very proud of you.
We welcome two new families to our school. Welcome Renee Suficiencia and her family. Renee is the eldest and only, and has started in Akonga Hub. We also welcome Trinity and Zion Faaiuaso and their family to St Joes. Trinity and Zion have moved to Morrinsville from our fellow St Joseph's School in Paeroa. Trinity has joined Whakatipu Hub and Zion is in Room 3. I know you will make the Suficiencia family and the Faaiuaso family very welcome.
This week is a short week and next week, week 11, is the last week of the term. Thank you so much for supporting Autism Awareness as we wear our PJ's and onesies to school today.
Have a fantastic week. God bless you all.

Nothing But Rain
Written by Anastasia Van Leuuwen, year 3
I was scampering along. I could hear dead leaves crunching below me. Suddenly I stopped. I could smell rain, bad rain. I took off trying to find shelter. I could see other squirrel monkey’s trying to find shelter too. We squirrel monkeys have a good sense of smell so we will take off while the other animals will still be grazing.
Then it started spitting. The spits turned into pouring. I quickly grabbed a banana leaf and crouched down on a tree stump, I could hear the rain pounding on the leaf. I felt cold. The pouring turned into pounding. The pounding turning into a storm and the storm could not get worse. I felt like I was about to freeze to death, I could hear thunder and lightening splitting branches in half. I reached out to grab a plant. Then I tasted it. It tasted bitter, but I still ate it. I felt wet wood surrounding me.
Then the storm turned into pounding the pounding turned into pouring. The pouring turned into spitting. The spitting turned into a rainbow. The rainbow turned into sunshine and the sunshine stayed. I got off the stump and scampered away. I passed shivering warthogs, frozen leopards, cold otters, and foxes, soaking groundhogs, dripping woodpeckers, wet racoons, damp hares, and chattering squirrels. And most of all trees. Lots and lots of damp wood. Straight ahead was a waterfall with moss growing on the rocks. Birds surrounding the sight. After all that water I was feeling very thirsty and I think most of the other animals were too because it was crowded. There were elephants, geese, moose, deer, giraffes, zebra, racoons. Even the birds came down to drink and bath in the lake.
After the feast everyone left, I climbed up into the tree and grabbed a banana and peeled it open. Gobble gobble. I smelt other fruit growing around me. I climbed towards some bears and grabbed a bunch. After lunch I played with some other monkeys. We played tag and I felt happy. Then I heard a scream, I gasped. Then I ran… I was running so fast that I heard the wind as it rushed past. Then I saw it… a leopard. It was growling at a monkey. I knew what had happened. A monkey had come along and laughed at a leopard and it had gotten into a fight.
Later that night I heard a howling noise. I did not know what was happening. No animal in the jungle made that noise! I was surprised. I touched my eyes and rubbed them.
The next morning, I woke up early and moon was going down. Then I heard the howling sound again! I screamed. My friends came rushing in. I told them what had happened and they agreed to hunt. Along the way, all the monkeys joined in. As they were growing closer toward the edge, they neared the sound. Getting nearer and nearer. As they reached the end of the jungle, I saw a pack of wolves crowding around us. I screamed and pounded my chest like I was a gorilla. The fight had started. I screeched so loud that I heard a reaction. Then all the other monkeys joined in too. Then the fight started!

REFLECTION
What happens after Easter?
Dear God,
Thank you that you make all things new. Thank you for the victory and power in your Name. Thank you that you hold the keys over death, that by your might, Jesus was raised from the grave, paving the way for us to have new life with you. Thank you that you had plan, that you made a way.
We confess our need for you…fresh…new…again. We ask that you renew our hearts, minds, and lives, for the days ahead. We pray for your refreshing over us.
Amen
