Dryden Dolphin Splash Newsletter
May 18, 2020
Thanks to all of our families for your cooperation in picking-up and returning your children's school supplies last week! We appreciate being able to organize and inventory our LMC books and textbooks before summer construction work begins on our building, so that we can be prepared for the beginning of the 2020-21 school year. Our summer construction work involves replacing old galvanized piping with copper piping. We hope that our students will continue to utilize the supplies they recently received throughout the summer to keep learning and creating. Our staff greatly appreciated being able to see and interact with all the Dryden families last week. We truly miss you!
Here is the link to the landing page with all of the grade level remote learning plans for this week. If you would like paper copies of the student practice, please email Mrs. Sessler at asessler@sd25.org to arrange a time for pick-up.

Recognizing Dryden Retirees
As we near the end of the 2019-2020 school year, we would like to honor and celebrate two very special staff members who will are retiring at the end of this school year.
We thank Teacher Cathie Schwarz for her outstanding dedication to the students, staff and families of Dryden. Mrs. Schwarz taught for 21 years at Dryden (33 years total). She served as the gifted resource teacher for 15 years and 4th grade teacher for 6 years. Additionally, Mrs. Schwarz supervised during the lunch hour every day and taught the advanced 4th grade math classes. We greatly appreciate the way Mrs. Schwarz supported students students on a personal, individual level. Dryden students can often be heard commenting on how nice and fun Mrs. Schwarz is to be around. The PTA recently provided a $100 donation in honor of Mrs. Schwarz to the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes' Foundation. This charity, chosen by Mrs. Schwarz, provides mental health care to healthcare workers.
We also extend our gratitude to Special Education Teaching Assistant Mrs. Jane Johnson for her excellent service to the Dryden community. Mrs. Johnson has been a special education teaching assistant at Dryden for 21 years (25 years total in District 25). She has worked with students in every grade level and every classroom at Dryden with such great care and positivity. With Mrs. Johnson's support, students felt motivated to take on learning challenges, and they looked forward to working with her every day. The PTA recently provided a $100 donation in honor of Mrs. Johnson to the Children's Neuroblastoma Cancer Foundation. This charity, chosen by Mrs. Johnson, is dedicated to finding a cure for neuroblastoma through research, education, awareness and advocacy.
Mrs. Schwarz and Mrs. Johnson will be fondly remembered for the tremendous positive impact they have had on thousands of children at Dryden!

Lunch Account Balances
This is a reminder that if there is a balance left over in your student’s lunch account, that balance will be carried over for your student to use during the 2020-2021 school year. However, due to the extenuating circumstances caused by COVID-19, you have an option to request that the balance be returned to you via check at the end of this school year. Our Department of Food Services will only honor this request if the leftover balance is greater than $10. If you would like that balance returned to you, please call the Department of Food Services at (847) 758-4883.

Volunteer Opportunities for Next Year
Dryden Volunteers: Because we're not sure what's happening in our schedules next week, much less next year, we are going to take a pause and wait to send out the Volunteer Opportunities Sign Up and the Room Representative Sign Up at the end of the summer. We'll let you know before that comes out.
4th Grade Parents: We are, however, going to send out the 5th Grade Volunteer Opportunities Sign Up on Wednesday, June 3 at 7pm. Many of the 5th grade activities start right away, and we'd love to have those volunteers in place.
Let's Support Our Dine Out Partners!
These restaurants supported us throughout this year, so if you're considering take out, please consider ordering from one of them! (flyer below)
5th Grade Service Project- Journeys
Prior to Spring Break and the subsequent school closing, our 5th grade students had voted as a class to support Journeys - The Road Home for their service project.
JOURNEYS is a non-profit agency that provides shelter, social services and housing to the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless in 37 towns in north/northwest suburban Cook County. Unfortunately, the kids are not at school to help collect and support this service project, but we hope to still try and show support for Journeys - The Road Home from our own homes. The PTA will be purchasing items from Journey's Amazon Wishlist, in the class of 2020's name, with any money leftover from the 5th grade gift to Dryden. If you are so inclined, you can support this organization by purchasing items from its Amazon Wishlist. The link to the wish list is: If you would like to learn more about the organization and its needs, please click on the link below: JOURNEYS | The Road Home - Home Thank you in advance for any support that you may be able to provide during this time of uncertainty for those in the most need!
School Supply Packs
It's time to order your 2020-2021 School Supply Packs! We’re thrilled to announce that we have partnered with a new LOCAL company this year, Shane's Kits!
What is staying the same? Our supplier passes quantity discount savings along to us, so the kits are usually less expensive, more accurate, and more convenient than shopping on your own. And custom name labels for your supplies are included with each pack.
What has changed? You can now ship your kit directly to Dryden AND pay no shipping fee! If you order by June 12, your kits will be shipped directly to Dryden with no shipping costs. The packs will be distributed to each child's classroom - we'll let you know these details closer to next Fall - but no more struggling to school on the first day with that overflowing backpack!
What else? Mid-summer orders! If you miss the June 12 deadline, you can still order through much of the summer! Orders placed between June 13 and through August 3 will be delivered to your home. The price for the kits are the same, with a shipping fee of $9.95 per order (not per kit). Kits should arrive within 10-15 business days or sooner.
To order, click here and enter Dryden School code DRY25. Be sure to select the grade your child will be in next year.
