A Message from Dr. Stone
Good evening!
Thanks to everyone who participated in Pennies for Patients. Our school raised $8,360.34 ($1420.34 coin, $6595 cash, $345 online) – enough for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to support 83 patients in the Patti Robinson Kaufmann First Connection program, so that they are not alone in their fight against blood cancer. I love that we have such a generous and giving community, parents, students and staff! Way to go!
I hope that everyone has a great week!
Regards,
Dr. Melinda Stone
Principal

Volunteer for Junior Achievement
On Wednesday, November 20th, we will have the 6th grade JA Global Marketplace program. This program requires community volunteers to lead pre-planned sessions that help to educate and inspire young people to understand their role in the global economy and be ready for the workforce. The event will take place from 8:40 a.m. to 3:55 p.m.
A JA representative will host three online trainings prior to the event and those dates will be shared soon. Also, JA provides all materials for the program.
If you have volunteered in the past, we hope that you will join us again this year to help inspire a new group of 6th graders.
To volunteer, or if you have questions, please contact Kelly Watkins at kellymwatkins@katyisd.org
We hope to see you in the classroom!
AMC8 Math Competition - Register now!
The AMC8 is a competition hosted by the Mathematical Association of America. It takes place one day a year and students are ranked against their grade level peers. The “8” in AMC8 indicates that the math is intended to be 8th grade level, but we invite all WCJH students who are interested to participate. You will get 40 minutes to answer 25 questions. The competition is held on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 from 4:10-4:50. The cost to participate is only $6.
To register, grab a registration form from your nearest math teacher! Money and registration forms are due to your math teacher no later than Friday, November 8th. Please see your math teacher or Ms. Jones in room 1163 for additional information. Thanks and good luck!

Spanish for Spanish Speakers Assessment
The Spanish for Spanish Speakers placement test will be given to 7th grade students who have indicated Spanish as the home language on the Home Language Survey. The purpose of this test is to identify students eligible to participate in the Spanish for Spanish Speakers Program. This course of study is designed for proficient Spanish speakers and allows four credits of Spanish to be earned in two academic years while in high school or two credits in junior high. This assessment is for placement purposes only and does not award credit for any course.
This assessment will take place at WCJH on December 4, 2019 during the school day. Letters will be sent home for students that have already been identified, and no further action is required unless you do not want your child tested.
If you do not received a letter and would like your child to participate in the assessment please contact Kodi Holmes at KodiLHolmes@katyisd.org before December 2, 2019.
