A Message from Dr. Frischkorn

Good Afternoon Mayfield!

We have reached the interim mark for the 3rd quarter. Your child should be bringing home their interim report card that will provide you a great update for how your child is doing all of their classes. If you have questions, then next week is a perfect time to set up a conference with your child's teacher. Next week we have 2 early release days on February 13 and February 14. Students will be dismissed at 11:20 AM so that teachers have the afternoon available to schedule conferences with parents.

With gratitude,

#MayfieldISProud

School Counselor Appreciation Week

This past week was School Counselor Appreciation Week. We are extremely fortunate to have 3 amazing school counselors at our school who are here to meet the social-emotional learning needs of our students. The work hard everyday providing school counseling lessons, provide small group support, holding one-to-one counseling sessions, and helping register all our new Bobcats. They are a huge reason for our success as a school.

Please feel free to visit our School Counselor's website for more information about the services they provide for our community.

Thank you Mrs. Dutchess, Ms. Thomasson, and Mr. Vavrinak! Mayfield is proud that you serve as our school counselors.

Mayfield Parent Advisory Meeting

Monday, Feb. 17th, 7pm

9400 Mayfield Court

Old Town Manassas, VA

We are going to host our first Mayfield Parent Advisory Meeting. The purpose of this meeting is for the school administration to share our mission and our vision with our parents and to help them understand the type of learning environment that we hope to offer to our students on a daily basis. All parents are welcome to attend.

RSVPs are enabled for this event.

Reminder: The School Day Starts at 7:15 AM

This is a friendly reminder that the school day starts at 7:15 AM. I have been noticing that our car drop off line is getting a little backed up right at 7:15 and students are showing up late to school. It's important that students enter the school building before 7:15 AM so that they are ready and prepared for the school day. If you are a car rider, please adjust your morning schedules to make sure that you are arriving to school on-time.

Thanks!

SOL Testing Dates

It's had to believe, but SOL testing is right around the corner. We will start SOL testing during the last week of April. Prior to SOL testing we will give our students plenty of opportunities to become familiar with the testing protocol so that when they take the test, it's all about them showing off how much they learned this year. Please look at the calendars below.

5th Grade SOL Exams: Reading, Math and Science

6th Grade SOL Exams: Reading and Math

March- Students will be administered the Student Growth Assessment (SGA). The SGA assesses students on all the content that has been taught throughout the school year. The SGA provides valuable information that teachers can use to help offer students further assistance prior to the SOL exams in April and May.

April- Students will return from Spring Break and have 2 weeks of time that can be used to help familiarize the students with the SOL testing website. Students will be provided time to use their laptops to make sure that they understand how to use the tools that are available to them while they take the SOL exam. SOL testing will begin during the last week of April. To keep it simple, 5th grade students will have SOL exams on 3 consecutive Tuesdays. 6th Grade students will have SOL exams on 2 consecutive Thursdays.

May- Students will finish up SOL exams in early May. Students who are eligible will have the opportunity to take an expedited retake. Students who score between 375-399 on their first attempt on the SOL will be provided the opportunity to try the SOL exam again.
