Bonsall Bear News
Week of September 18 - September 22
Principal's Message
BUSD is hosting a golf tournament to support our athletic and agriculture programs. Please see the flyer below to sign up and/or sponsor a hole at the tournament on September 30.
IMPORTANT NOTE - I love my dogs just as much as you do, however in order to ensure everyone is kept safe, dogs are NOT permitted on campus. That includes bringing your dog to school to drop off and/or pick up your child.
Please see information below about our Love on your Back program. This wonderful program provides food and supplies for families across the BUSD schools. Please scan the QR code on the flyer to donate to the program.
Warmly,
Allison Fortney

COVID update
Bonsall Unified School District has supplied two COVID test kits per student for our site. If you would like your child to retrieve the two kits, please come to the office to pick up your kits. These COVID tests are provided to you as a courtesy. Testing is not required by our district.
Although we are excited to have your child attend school everyday, when your child is sick, we do ask you to keep him or her at home. Specifically, if your child has tested positive for COVID, he or she should remain at home for five (5) days from the onset of symptoms or positive COVID test (if asymptomatic). Your child may return on Day 6, unless he or she remains sick. Masking upon return to school is not required by the District.
We wish you great health as we know the cold and flu season approaches, and encourage you to place special attention to taking practical steps to boost your student’s immune system by providing nutritious food, proper amounts of sleep, and good doses of exercise.

IMPORTANT UPDATES
- Gates will open at 7:50 a.m. this year. The time change supports the 15 minute adjustment to the start of the school day as well as promoting equity across the district. Please do not drop students off prior to 7:50 as there will not be any supervision and it is a safety issue.
- Starting on Thursday, there will be 5th grade "Student Ambassadors" available to walk your child on campus and get them where they need to go. Students Ambassadors will also be placed strategically around the campus to support students as they transition back to school.
- For the 2023-2024 school year, California will continue to offer free breakfast and lunch to all students. Our cafeteria will begin serving breakfast at 7:50 a.m. Please see below for link to the August menu and a message from Child Nutrition Services.
Bonsall Elementary School is a proud Purple Star School
As a Purple Star School, BES is committed to supporting the unique educational and social/emotional needs of our military students and families. I am tremendously proud of our commitment to the students and families connected to our nation's military. Thank you to our families, past and present who make so many sacrifices for our country. As the daughter and granddaughter of Veterans, I understand that sacrifice and I am eternally grateful. For more information, please click on the following link that will direct you to our webpage that offers information and support for military families.
TK and Kindergarten families - please see the flyer below!

Updates from the PTA
Our big fall fundraiser "Monster Mash" is coming Saturday, October 21st from 2:00-6:00pm. This event requires LOTS of candy, so if you see some on sale or are taking a trip to Costco, please help us stock up! Hold on to that candy because later this month we will be running a candy drive and the class with the heaviest candy contribution will win an ice cream party!
Thank you for your support!

Important updates from the CDE
BUSD Families,
The California Department of Education passed legislation this past July that all school districts must remind parents and legal guardians of all students in the Bonsall Unified School District of their responsibilities for keeping firearms out of the hands of children as required by California law. Please take a moment to review the memo below.
California Law Regarding Safe Storage of Firearms Memorandum 2023-2024
Ley de California Sobre el Almacenamiento Seguro de Armas de Fuego 2023-2024
The Library Lowdown with Ms. DuPont
Thank you to our BES families for your support of our semi-annual Book Fair. It was great to see so many of our families at Back to School Night and throughout the week. In total, we raised just over $11,000 for the library and teachers. This money goes directly to new books and material purchases for the students!
To the parents and family members who volunteered and helped set-up and take-down - THANK YOU. Without the assistance from our amazing community, Book Fair cannot happen. Many parents volunteered multiple days or spent several hours of their free time helping. You are immensely appreciated.
