Concept Codeathon Champions
Codeathon is a computer science design challenge open to Concept Schools students in grades K-12. Codeathon is a hybrid event where students work collaboratively in person to develop a computer science solution to a real-world issue in just 2 weeks and present/submit their solution virtually!
Our very own team, The CoderCyclones, worked hard to earn the 1st place award! Our CoderCylones beat out 16 other Concept Schools for the title. Mr. Kamal, the team's coach, says, "This is a significant achievement for our school, and I am extremely proud of our students' dedication and hard work." Go Cyclones!

Art Opening
Horizon Science Academy of Lorain is filled with blossoming artists. Our students were excited to be featured in an exhibit. The Educational Service Center of Lorain County hosted their 40th annual Lorain County Elementary/Middle School Art Show Open House. It was held at Elyria Public Library System on West River Road, April 27th from 4:30-6:00pm. The exhibit runs until May 12th, so please come out and take a look at the work of our talented students.
Congrats to Kelsea G. (5), Gustavo R. (5), Arionna J. (5), Sonia B. (5), Seniha C. (4), & Lilianna L. (4).

New Stage Lights
Mr. Nickel, our IT expert, set out to change that. Last year, Mr. Nickell updated the sound. When we went to get our lights replaced, we found out it was extremely costly. Even with schoolwide fundraising this was a hefty goal. Mr. Nickell talked with lighting technicians, did research, and scoured the internet to become a how-to guru in lighting.
With the fundraising money that was available, Mr. Nickell was able to purchase and install our stage lighting. Our stage is back to it's original glory, and ready to host memories for decades of students to come.
CYSP Visits The Botanical Gardens
This trip helped to engage the senses, learn about sustainability and types of plant biomes, offer a relaxing environment, and introduce our students to native plants. CYSP will be going camping for their final trip of the year.
If your student is in grades 5-12 and is interested in joining CYSP, please be on the look out for information at the beginning of the school year on finding a mentor and joining a group. For more information about or CYSP program click the button below.

5th-8th Basketball Camp
Our Basketball Camp for grades 5-8 was a success. Coach Harris set up a more skill intensive basketball camp for some of our older students this year. Our students were fortunate enough to work with Professional Basketball Player & Clinician, DaVonte Harris.
Coach Harris wasn't the only one working with the kids. Mrs. Harvey and Mr. Steven joined in as well. The students were working hard and having a great time doing it.

Student Nominated for R.A. Horn Outstanding Achievement Award
The R. A. Horn Outstanding Achievement Award for a Student is presented to one exemplary special education student from each of Ohio's 16 State Support Team regions. This award was established 25 years ago by the Ohio Department of Education in honor of the late Dr. Raymond A.
12th grade student De'Antae Kirk Jr. was nominated for the award this year. While ultimately De'Antae was no chosen as the recipient of this award, it is still an honor to be nominated. De'Antae was still honored with a Lamp of Knowledge medal and certificate to honor this achievement.
