Cross Country News Update:
Young Titans Capture Two Seconds
The Running Titans improve on last year’s performance at the Rumble Through the Jungle meet on Sept. 9th at the Creasy Mahan Nature Preserve course in Goshen, KY. Junior Maddie Petty got the ball rolling as the Titan’s as the first girl finisher (40th) in a season best of 21:58. Freshman Lilly Vest got a huge PR (22:15) to score a top 50 place (48th). The girls took three minutes off of their total team time last year to clock 1:57:07 and finish 13th. Abigail Jacobs, Bianca Saucedo, and Hallie Elmore all got season bests on the tough course.
The boys placed 17th out of 24 teams and were led by sophomore Nolan Thomas’ 57th place finish in a season best 18:06. The boys’ total team time of 1:35:06 bested last year’s team time by 3:18. Zach Bozell and Ethan Howell also got season bests for the Titans.
Assistant Coach Kim Powell said, “I was very impressed with our athletes’ times at Rumble. The Creasy Mahan course is one of our more difficult courses and our runners definitely stepped up to the challenge. Over half of our team either got a PR or seasonal best and shaved minutes from their team time last year. This should position us well for the Trinity meet on Saturday.”
The Titans travel to Tom Sawyer State Park to run in the Trinity / Valkyrie Invitational on Sept. 16th.
Shelby West Middle Finishes Strong
The Shelby West Middle School boys finished 10th out of 27 teams with James Solinger leading the charge in 38th place. The West girls finished seventh out of 22 teams. They were led by Abby Powell’s 25th place finish.
