Summer Greetings Region 5!
July is already upon us and before you know it, we will be welcoming our students back for the 2023-2024 school year. Some of the June UABRIC professional learning highlights include Leveling UP! with new teachers, being RESET in our mental wellness, building 3D designs, and expanding our knowledge in the science of reading. So, in addition to your family cookouts and beach vacations, you may continue your professional growth this summer with the UABRIC.

Pre-AP Readiness Summer Workshops: July 10-13 Registration Deadline Extended
What is it?
Pre-AP Readiness Workshops are interactive and immersive professional learning opportunities that orient participants to the content, design, and pedagogy of the Pre-AP Program. Educators actively engage in an exploration of Pre-AP design and instructional content-specific topics and empower participants to apply what they’ve learned to their own grade level or course within their content area.
Who Should Attend?
ALL Grades 6-12 Teachers (not just AP teachers)
Subjects taught?
Pre-AP English, Math (TEAMS Approved), Science (TEAMS Approved), and Social Studies

Educator Wellness is Important
Attend the My Feelings Are Okay Seminar with Dr. Donielle Fagan on July 25 at the Spark Learning Center.

Breakfast, lunch, and free parking are provided.
Participants will also receive a copy of Dr. Fagan's book. She will autograph books at the end of the day.

PowerSchool Professional Development Needs
Registration for LETRS Cohort 7 is Now Open
Cohort 7 is open for registration from May 1, 2023, through September 1, 2023, for Alabama's Public/Public Charter School educators, including professors in Alabama's Educator Prep Programs. Kickoff sessions will begin in August 2023. Virtual sessions will begin in August 2023. In-person sessions will begin in September 2023. The Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) will offer both in-person and virtual opportunities throughout the 2023-2024 school year.
Carefully review the specific commitments for this professional learning outlined in the registration form. The link contains a handout detailing LETRS course processes and expectations:
- LETRS K-12 is a 2 YR Course with a 3 YR License
- LETRS for Early Childhood is a 1 YR Course with a 2 YR License
- UPDATED LETRS for Administrators is a 2 YR Course with a 2 YR License
July 13-60th Anniversary of Project C
This Professional Development will provide teachers with lesson-planning support to teach information regarding 1963’s Project C in Birmingham, Alabama. Lessons-planning support will include a lesson plan to introduce new material to students and a walking tour packet to empower teachers to be their school’s tour guide on a field trip to the Birmingham Civil Rights Monument.
A certificate of appreciation will be awarded on behalf of the Birmingham Metropolitan Chapter of Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc., and professional development hours will be provided through UAB in conjunction with the Coalition for True History.
