Principal's Message
We have had a great first week at Duluth Middle School! I hope that you and your student(s) have begun to settle back in to the normal routine of school. Today, students took district pre-tests in two of their classes. They will complete these assessments tomorrow. District assessments are just one measure of students’ progress in mastering the academic knowledge and skills (AKS) taught at their grade level. The pre-tests give teachers an idea of where each student is starting this year. This data will be used to set achievement goals for students and teachers.
I have mentioned the solar eclipse and our late dismissal for Aug. 21st previously in this publication. We are providing approved protective glasses for all students and staff. A permission form will be sent home on Friday for students to view the eclipse with the glasses. Students who do not return permission slips by Aug. 21st will view the eclipse via live streaming in our media center.
This is our first year as a school-wide Title I school.
Please join us for our Title I School-wide Planning Meeting
Date: Tuesday, August 15th
Time: 5:00 p.m.
Place: Cafeteria
Hope to see you there.

Gwinnett to delay dismissal by one hour on August 21
In Gwinnett, the near-total eclipse is expected to begin around 2:35 p.m. and will last approximately two minutes. While it may be tempting to brush off warnings against looking up at this eclipse bare-eyed, don’t. The light
of an eclipse really can damage your eyes.
In order to help ensure the safe viewing for our students and a safe dismissal of students,
Gwinnett County Public Schools will delay dismissal for all schools by one hour.
