Dear Parents,

We are approaching assessment time again across our school district. Your children will be taking several assessments over the next three or four months. There are many things you can do to help your children prepare for taking these tests. Please help to assure your children get plenty of sleep, a good breakfast, and reduced stress at home during testing times. All these preparations will help students with their focus and processing skills.

During this spring, students in grades 3-5 will be taking the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) tests. These assessments are designed to prove that our students are meeting state standards in the areas of math and reading (grades 3-5) and science (grade 5). Our English Language Learning (ELL) students will also be participating in the English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA). This state-wide assessment is used to measure whether our ELL students are becoming proficient in their ability to effectively read, write, speak, and listen to English. Lastly, our dual language 5th graders will take part in the STAMP assessment that measures on-track performance in both English and Spanish.

Thank you for your support as we jump into this round of major test testing. Please encourage your students to give their best effort so that we can accurately measure what they know and are able to do.

Nos acercamos nuevamente al momento de la evaluación en todo nuestro distrito escolar. Sus hijos tomarán varias evaluaciones durante los próximos tres o cuatro meses. Hay muchas cosas que puede hacer para ayudar a sus hijos a prepararse para estos exámenes. Ayude a asegurar que sus hijos duerman lo suficiente, tomen un buen desayuno y reduzcan el estrés en casa durante los tiempos de exámenes. Todos estos preparativos ayudarán a los estudiantes con su enfoque y sus habilidades de procesamiento.

Durante esta primavera, los estudiantes en los grados 3-5 tomarán las pruebas del Consorcio de Evaluación Smarter Balanced (SBAC). Overview

This month's focus is Honesty. One way to think about Honesty is "being truthful in what you say and do." Practicing Honesty helps strengthen our relationships and reduce stress.

Honesty is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Well. Throughout the school, students, will be developing skills like emotion regulation, positive self-talk, and stress-management.

El enfoque de este mes es la Honestidad. Una forma de pensar en la Honestidad es “ser sincero en lo que dices y haces”. Practicar la Honestidad ayuda a fortalecer nuestras relaciones y reducir el estrés.

La honestidad es uno de los tres rasgos en los que nos centraremos durante todo el año que ayuda a los estudiantes a estar bien. A lo largo de la escuela, los estudiantes desarrollaran habilidades como la regulación de las emociones, el dialogo interno positivo y el manejo del estrés.

• Stay home when sick.
• Avoid contact with people who are sick.
• Wash hands regularly for at least 20 seconds.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth and keep your hands away from your or your child’s face.
• Clean and disinfect surfaces that are often touched, such as doorknobs and electronic devices.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
• Consider wearing a mask in crowded indoor settings, especially if you or someone in your home is at high risk for severe disease.
