Starr King Chronicles
We hope everyone enjoyed their break and is ready to return to school! Be sure to stay bundled up as we have had a string of unprecedented weather for our area, and make an effort to leave home a little bit earlier so the rain doesn’t make you miss the 7:55 tardy bell. Remember, breakfast opens at 7:15!
School Site Council Meeting January 24, 2023
Starr King's next School Site Council Meeting will be on January 24, 2023 from 3:00-4:00 pm in the library. Agenda will be available to preview in the Starr King office on Friday, January 20. Families are welcome to attend.
First step to getting a great education is making sure you're at school! Attendance is very important, and if you are struggling to get here on time or at all, we're here to help. Remember students can be on campus as early as 7:15 for the start of breakfast, and the tardy bell rings at 7:55. We also have a multitude of district supports available to help assist families who are having a hard time with this. They can be found here: https://www.sanjuan.edu/Page/3343

February 1st- We are getting closer to the start of English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC). The general and Alternate ELPAC are delivered via a computer-based test delivery platform. The general ELPAC has four domains (Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing) which are administered on computer except for the Writing domain for kindergarten through grade two, which will remain as a paper-based test. The Alternate ELPAC has two communication modes: expressive (Speaking and Writing) and receptive (Listening and Reading). The window for administering these assessments will open on February 1st. For more resources and information on ELPAC, follow the link below.
February 20th- Don't forget that we have no school from February 20th to February 24th. This is a combination of an observance of President's day, and scheduled school recess. Enjoy your break!
Black Student Union has begun their meetings! The mission and philosophy of BSU is to help students strive for academic excellence, promote positive images of African Americans and provide a strong support system for the African-American students on the campus and within the San Juan Unified School District. Our Vision for the BSUs is to support, create, enhance, and build awareness through education and expand a new level of consciousness about being Black in today’s society. The goal is to leave a generational blueprint for multiple years that will thrive for years to come. Mr. David will be facilitating our campus’ BSU, and will hold meetings every Wednesday in room 28 after school. Make sure you reach out to him if you’d like to sign up, anyone in middle school is welcome!
