Science League
The Science League headed to Seneca High School in Tabernacle on Thursday, February 14th for their second competition of the 2019 season, and returned with another round of high scores and top honors! The Honors and AP Physics teams have picked up where they left off last year, earning 1st place rankings and several top-performer marks. Justin Ma and Brooke Wachter led the way for the Honors team and received the highest scores overall in the county! The AP team was led by top county scorer Joe Sundermier. For the second straight week, our AP Chemistry team earned a 1st place ranking as well! The team is led by top scorers Colin Kremus and Ryan Wachter. Colin's high mark of an 88 actually ranks him among the highest scoring students in the state! The AP Biology team earned another 2nd place finish and was led by sophomore Claire Logue, and the Earth Science team also finished in 2nd place and was led by freshman Ben Laster! The team looks to extend their early-season successes on March 14th and April 11th, as we wrap up the 2019 competitive campaign! Go Bears!!
Robotics Team
A record number of Robotics Team students traveled to our first and only VEX Robotics “Turning Point” competition on Saturday, February 2nd in Millville, NJ. Despite working late into the evening earlier in the week, only one robot was prepared to compete. We started with disaster -- we neglected to bring the wires needed to connect the controller to the motors. Through teamwork and generous competing teams, we were able to get our robot to work and compete. Many students got involved with the repairs and the hurried practices. Because of the poor start, we ended up near the bottom of the 2 dozen teams, but our performance steadily improved over the course of the morning. We were proud of the group effort in the face of adversity.
Pictured below are our Bionic Bears working on their robot.
Digital Fabrication Lab Update
Electrical upgrades are occurring on the lab, to accept the load of the tools. A YouTube video was created by the Delran Visual and Performing Arts Department about the lab. Go to the following link to watch our Kick-Off Event on 11/30/18. We are continuing our design phase of curriculum planning with our ecosystem partners, including Lockheed Martin, Perkins Center for the Arts, Rowan College at Burlington County, Radwell International, students, teachers and administrators on March 19th.
Sustainable Jersey for Schools Update
A $10,000 grant from the NJEA and Sustainable Jersey for Schools was won by the DHS Green Team for the work on the Back to Eden Garden Space. The images below show the original design plan, which will include students from Horticulture, Technology Education classes as well as Green Team members. The community partners include: Inside Out Design Studio, Life Sanctuary and the Delran Municipal Green Team. Construction will begin at the thawing of the ground, between the main building and the science wing.

The wrestlers showed great pride at the District Tournament with their performance on the mat. Nine of our Bears made the top 3 in their weight class which allows them to compete in the Region 6 Tournament that starts on February 21st. Four of our Bears are District Champions: Zachary Zuckerman at 126, Bryan Miraglia at 132, Berkant Haliloglu at 182 and Zachary Bohn at 195. We are very proud of all of their efforts all season.
More history was made for Delran High School on Sunday, February 17th. Freshman Emma Matera competed in the first ever All-Female Region Wrestling Tournament at Red Bank Regional High School.
