Adventures in Art Class

Central Elementary School: First Trimester of 2015-2016

Upper School (Grades 3-5)

What happens when teachers collaborate?! 3L Personal Goal Self Portraits!

Ms. Lipski and Ms. Talian worked together to develop a project that incorporated reading, art and student goals! 3L students studied the artist Roy Lichtenstein during art class. Students looked at Lichtenstein's bright colors, cartoon like shapes and his added text and then used them in their own pictures. Finally, students collected letters and words to write their goals, just like the character Max in "Max's Words" by Kate Banks!

"Glass" Installation Art by Fifth Grade

Students in fifth grade learned about the glass artist Dale Chihuly. Fifth graders learned how glass artists work in a "Hot Shop" with many different tools and high temperature ovens to create their artwork. Students created their own mini "glass" painted sculptures. Finally, students worked in groups to create an installation of their sculptures.
