What The Internet Knows About You?
Brandon Petersen
How the Internet Learns About You?
The internet can find so many things about you. The internet can find out who you are based on your Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram posts. It can even find out more about you based on what you watch on Netflix. According to Eli Praiser, "Netflix can predict how much you'll like a given movie within about half a star." You are basically willingly giving up your privacy. Scary right?
Be Aware
You need to be awfully careful about things that you post. As shown in the video below, Mark Zuckerburg, CEO of Facebook, said, "A squirrel dying in front of your house may be more relevant to your interests right now than people dying in Africa." This statement had him under fire from others. He probably didn't mean it in a bad way, but it only takes one person to take it the wrong way,and then everyone else takes it the wrong way too.
Reputation
You are most likely connected with family and friends on social media, and one wrong post could ruin your reputation.
Career Path
You need to be careful of what you post, because most job interviewers and bosses will look you up on social media to see what you are like. If they see something that they don't like, you chances of landing that job are slim.
You Never Know
You never know who is watching you through the internet, so the best way to keep your own privacy is to think before do anything on the internet. By following one simple rule, you can keep your life safe from others.
