A Peek at the Week

January 13, 2019

Big picture
Your kindness to Mr. Hoover and David's families has been a beautiful thing to see. We have been able to give both of these families meals every single day. They are most appreciative, and I know it helps them so much during this most difficult time for both families. Thank you for being such a loving and caring staff!

Update on Mr. Hoover

Mr. Hoover's mom and dad arrived Wednesday to help to care for him and the kids. His mom let me know yesterday that they have put Mr. Hoover back in the hospital. They believe he may have had a stroke and/or Sepsis. Please continue to pray for him and the family. One of the older boys is having a lot of difficulty, so please remember him as well.

Buddy Bench

Mrs. Creamer had the wonderful idea of purchasing a "buddy bench" in David's honor. She is in the process of picking out the perfect bench, and we will dedicate it inviting his family when it arrives. Thank you Melissa for such a sweet thought.

Lunch Balances

If you will remember, this year the district established a new rule that lunch balances could not exceed $20 for students and staff. With our students, when their balances reach this amount, we are contacting parents to make sure they have applied for free/reduced lunch if applicable, and then they are given a grilled cheese lunch until it is paid if they do not qualify. Please check your lunch balances as well and make sure you are all paid up. Thanks so much!

PDExpress

This is just another reminder that you MUST sign up in PDExpress prior to the day of PD or YOU WILL NOT GET CREDIT. Mrs. Harrison told us this week at our principal's meetings that there would be no exceptions. In the past, they have allowed those who did not sign up in PDExpress to sign in at the PD itself. They will not do this now. She said there would be no exceptions, so please, please register. This includes the PD at school with Stacey.

House Meetings

We would like to have house meetings at the end of the month. We are going to change this house meeting up a bit by recognizing students for grades, improvement, etc., and having a student challenge. Because it is more involved, we are going to meet with two houses a day in the afternoon. I will be sharing a document with you for you to check which recognitions students should receive. Every student does not have to receive a recognition. Just those that you feel meet the expectations. When it is shared, please make a copy, add in your students checking the recognitions they deserve, and send back to me. This is another way we are attempting to inspire students to strive for being their very best.

The meeting dates are as follows:

January 28th: Reveur at 1:00, Fidelis at 1:45.

January 29th: Amistad at 1:00, Isibindi at 1:45.

We would also like for you to attend with your house. We know this is sometimes difficult, so please talk with your teams to see if you can come up with a plan to allow each teacher to attend with their house. Let us know if you cannot come up with a plan, and we will help.

Please wear house colors on these days and tell your kids to do the same. :-)

Teacher and Staff Challenge

I would like for you to name one student who inspires you to come to work everyday. In the workroom Monday, there will be a paper for you to write the name of that student. Please do this by Wednesday of next week. Do not share this with the student you have chosen yet. We will be doing something special with this soon. Don't forget!

Thursday night is going to be so much fun!!!! I am excited that so many of you are excited. We will miss those of you who can't attend. Thank you Jennifer for all of your planning!

Friday's Agenda:

9:30-10:00: Trauma kit training with Steven

10:00-12:30: Meet in library for R2S class

PLC Norms and CFA's

Keep Kandie and Drae in your prayers as they deal with the loss of Kandie's mom.
