A curve that is shaped like an arch. Any point on it is equal distance from the focus and the directrix.

Example: In the picture the point is equal space from the focus and the directrix.

It is also known as an Quadratic equation it is an equation that the highest exponent is a squared.

Example: 2x2+5x-3=0

## Vertex

The minimum and maximum point of the equation.

Example: The picture is an example of a Vertex is on a parabola.

## axis of symmetry

It is the line that goes through the vertex. It is like that line of symmetry.

Example: In the picture the axis of symmetry is -6.

## Maximum value and Minimum value

Maximum value- The maximum value of a quadratic function

Minimum value- The minimum value of a quadratic function

Example- on the example the maximum value is -5,24 and the minimum value is 0.5,-6.

## terms

A polynomial with a degree of 2 or a second degree polynomial because the highest exponent of x is 2.

Example: The greatest exponent is 2 making it follow the terms.

## first differences and second differences

First differences are the differences between consecutive y-values.

Second differences are the differences between consecutive first differences.

Example: In the picture the first term it is increasing by 1, then 3, then 5, ect. and the second term is increasing by 2.

## zeros(roots)

The zero makes the value of the function equal zero.

Example: In the picture 2-2=0 and f and x both equal zero so x equals 1 since x can't equal 0.
