The Stallion Stampede

Janie Stark Elementary Parent Newsletter

November 29, 2020

Dear Stallion Families,

We hope you all had a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving holiday with your family! As a reminder, if you have traveled outside of the country over the last week, there is a 14-day quarantine required. Please reach out to Nurse Candel at 972-968-3301 or to notify her of travel or for more information on the required 14-day travel. We appreciate you keeping us in the loop and helping us ensure safety for all of our staff and students!

This stretch between Thanksgiving holiday and Winter holiday is always a fun and exciting time at school. We want to continue some of our fun traditions in a safe manner. Please see below for fun dress-up days that students are invited to participate in if you choose!

As the hustle and bustle of December begins to pick up it’s pace, remember to take the time to slow down and savor these precious holiday memories and traditions with your child. There is nothing more magical than experiencing the joy of the holiday season alongside your child! These truly are the BEST of days.

To the BEST of days,

Mrs. Putman

December at Stark

For the month of December the staff will be enjoying holiday “theme” days to bring excitement and fun into the classroom and onto the screen for remote learners. We invite the students to participate in a few of the fun days as well! This is, of course, optional. Please do not feel like your child has to participate. These are only meant to be an exciting way to countdown the days until the winter break:

  • Wednesday, December 2 - Wear a holiday hat or headband

  • Tuesday, December 9 - Wear a reindeer shirt or reindeer antlers

  • Wednesday, December 16 - Dress like the 1980’s for the 80th day of school

  • Thursday, December 17 - Polar Express Day; wear pajamas

My goal is to continue our traditional fun and create an exciting learning environment where kids want to come to school. When students have fun learning, the likelihood of high academic achievement increases.

Change in Learning Option for the 3rd Nine Weeks

The window to change your child's learning option from Remote to Traditional or Traditional to Remote is now open and will close December 4th.

If you wish to change your child's option for the 3rd nine weeks, please click here and complete the form by Friday, December 4th. We will reach out to you and confirm your change before the end of the semester.

Don't forget your water bottle!

If your child is a traditional learner, please do not forget to send them with a refillable water bottle each day! Did you know that a child’s body is made up of 75% water? Water is essential to life and kids need plenty of water in order to feel good, focus, concentrate, and think. Water will also give your children the necessary energy and brainpower to help them learn easier and better.

Kids in school need water to help:

  • Keep their brains alive and working
  • Water gives a child electrical energy for brain functions, particularly thinking.
  • It is needed for sustained focus energy
  • For kids who drink plenty of water, their attention spans actually increases.
  • Water integrates mind and body functions. It helps kids and teens with the desire to make goals and have a purpose. Hard to believe that water can do this–but research indicates it can and does.

Sending your child each day with a water bottle to keep them hydrated is another way to help ensure your child feels healthy and actively engages in learning!
