Hawk Talk

Peninsula High School - June 18th, 2021

A Message from Dr. Potts

Dear Seahawk Families,

We are near the end of the school year, and already planning for the fall.

Let me take a moment to thank all those who made graduation a special event this year for our seniors and their families. Though the date changed and we were out of the Harbor for the event, the day and ceremony spotlighted our graduates and gave families a chance to celebrate a significant academic accomplishment. And the car parade also provided a chance for our community to say “well done” to seniors and families who have endured challenging times and achieved a very positive outcome. Seahawk proud in so many ways!

Our last Hawk Talk shifts the focus from the spring to the summer. Included you will find information about yearbooks and sports trainings and our opportunities. The yearbooks this year are wonderful—as usual—but this collection of memories was done during a challenging school year, and the mix of stories, photos, and highlights document the process of navigating, in a spirited way—this past school year. There is a link with information if students and families are interested in purchasing.

Sports programs begin with training sessions this summer. Information about various programs and opportunities for students is also included. Follow the link for dates and times. We want to encourage all students to participate in a club, sport, or an activity.

Summer also means that various academic food services programs are available for families. The summer lunch/backpack program is continuing and information about sites and times is included, as well as the Summer Lunch in the Park Program. Both are free to families, and we encourage families to take advantage of these wonderful opportunities. Summer school at PHS this year includes face-to-face credit recovery in short, three-week sessions. Each credit recovery session is paired with a camp opportunity. Frankly, there is no better way for students to earn back credits, improve skills, and enjoy a camp of choice than this program. Please find the link to this program and others across the district in our newsletter.

Finally, we would like to express sincere thanks and gratitude to students, families, and community for helping to navigate through a challenging year. Next year will be better. We will build and grow on what we have learned.

Joe Potts, Ph.D.
