Horizon Elementary School
Our Guidance Program 2016-2017
Mrs. Walker
I am blessed to join the Horizon staff this year as the school counselor. This will be my 17th year in education and I look forward to serving our students.
About Me...
I have lived in the Huntsville/Madison area all of my life and graduated from Bob Jones in 1986. My husband and I have three children, Drew (23), Mary Susan (19) and Ty (6).
In My Spare Time...
My husband and I operate a non-profit organization that serves the Harvest community. We have a food-pantry and typically serve 180-200 families every Saturday.
The MAIN Goal of Horizon's Guidance program is to...
assist your child as they grow academically, emotionally and socially.
The 7 Habits will be reinforced in whole class instruction
The 7 Habits of Happy Kids...
1-Be Proactive "You're In Charge"
2-Begin With The End In Mind "Have a Plan"
3-Put First Things First "Work First, Then Play"
4-Think Win Win "Everyone Can Win"
5-Seek First to Understand, Then Be Understood "Listen Before You Talk"
6-Synergize "Together Is Better"
7-Sharpen The Saw "Balance Feels Best"
This school year our guidance program will be focused on...
- LEADERSHIP by reinforcing 7 Habits from The Leader in Me Program
- THEIR FUTURE by teaching the much needed 21st Century Skills (Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, and Critical Thinking)
- EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION by discussing conflict resolution and anger management strategies.
- COMMUNITY by discussing the importance of kindness and serving and providing genuine opportunities to serve.
Our Families are the Key to Success
Another very important element in the guidance program is to help connect our parents with any information they may need to help their children be successful. Whether it be a consultation with the counselor, a conference with a teacher or a referral for assistance within our community, please do not hesitate to contact me at 256-464-3614 ext.109. My goal is to help your children be successful in every way and to serve the families of our school.
